Gustave and Lilias (Roberts) Jesse, 1N 45W



LILIAS' FAMILY

February 1906 "Henry Roberts, of Holbrook, Nebraska, arrived in Wray last Wednesday. Mr. Roberts purchased a farm west of town last fall, and will shortly become resident of Yuma county."

March 1910 "Frank Ball of Holbrook, Neb., has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Henry Roberts of south Wray, returned to his home Monday afternoon."

July 1919 "Mrs. Henry Roberts and son, Cecil, of La Veta, Colo., arrived Friday evening in Wray to visit the former's daughter, Mrs. Gus Jesse, west of Wray. Cecil returned recently from France and last week received his honorable discharge at Fort Bliss, Texas."

GUSTAVE AND LILAS

Gustave Jesse and Lilas Roberts married on 18 Feb 1908 in Yuma County.

In 1910 Yuma County, Gustarn Jesse is 24, born in Germany, farming, Lillas Jesse 20 Wife, and Norris Jesse 0 Son.


Gustave proved up 320 acres in 28 and 33, 1N 45W in 1912.

December 1912 "Mrs. Henry Roberts is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Gustave Jesse, of west of town."

August 1914 "Mrs. Gus Hesse and two children of west of Wray left Friday for Denver, where they will spend two weeks with Mrs. Hesse's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Roberts."

August 1916 " Miss Ann Roberts, who had been spending the summer with her sister, Mrs. Gustave Jesse of west of town, returned to her home in Denver last Monday afternoon."

March 1917 "Miss Amny Roberts came down from Denver yesterday to remain a few weeks with hor sister, Mrs. Gus Jesse west of town. Miss Amny says her father, Henry Roberts, formerly of Wray, has sold his Denver home and that her father and mother have moved to the Walsenburg district where thoy have engaged in business."

In 1920, Gustave Jesse is 34, Lillas Jesse 30 Wife, Norris Jesse 10 Son, Robert Jesse 8 Daughter, and Elva Jesse 4 Daughter.

December 1927 " Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Roberts and daughter of Eckley spent Christmas with Mr. Roberts’ sister, Mrs. Gustave Jesse and family. ."

In 1930, Gustav Jessie 44, Lillas L. Jessie 40 Wife, Norris T. Jessie 20 Son, Rollie H. Jessie 18 Son, and Elva E. Jessie 14 Daughter.

In 1940, Gustav Jesse is 54, Lilas L. Jesse 50 Wife, Robert V. Jesse 28 Son, and James Karns 21 Hired Man.

June 1960 "Mrs. Gustave Jesse, a long-time resident of this community, died unexpectedly Sunday at the Wray Community hospital. Mrs. Jesse was hospitalized the day before her death after she suffered a heart attack while in town.
The funeral service for Mrs. Jesse was held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at the First Presbyterian church in Wray with the Rev. Robert Bill officiating. Interment was at Grandview cemetery.
The former Lilias Roberts was born February 7, 1890, at Cope to Henry and Edith Roberts. She was 70 years, three months and 22 days old at the time of her death. She spent her childhood in Arkansas, Missouri and Colorado. On February 18, 1908. she was married to Gustave Jesse at Wray and the couple had continued their residence in this community since developing a fine country place southwest of Wray.
Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jesse. They are Norris of Lincoln, Neb., Robert of Mobile, Ala., and Elva Wakefield of Eckley. Surviving are her husband, Gustave, her three children, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren. one sister, and three brothers."

July 1961 "Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Jesse have been receiving the congratulations of friends since their marriage on Monday, June 19, in Denver. Mrs. Jesse is the former Flo Montgomery of Denver. They are making their home on the Jesse farm west of Wray."

ROBERT

Robert Hugh Jessie registered for WWII in Lincoln, Nebraska, born March 17, 1912. He's living with his brother Norris Fred Jesse at 518 S. 11th.

May 1947 "Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Jesse have received word from their son, Robert Jesse of Mobile, Alabama, that he was married on April 11 to Miss Pauline Wynn of St. Louis, Missouri. Details of the wedding were not given.
The couple are making their home at Mobile where the ceremony was performed. Mr. Jesse has many friends in the Wray community. He graduated from the local high school and served two and a half years in the Navy during the war. He also did government work in this country and in Alaska before entering the service. He was discharged a year ago last March and returned to the work he was doing before he entered service."

"It has been learned from the Gus Jesses that their son, Robert Jesse, is the fatbroof a boy named Hugh Allen who was born October 10, 1948. The Robert Jesses live at Mobile, Ala."

"The daughter born October 4, 1952 to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jesse of Mobile, Ala., has been named Christena Lilias in honor of her two grandmothers."

February 1962 " Robert Jesse, who has been in Mobile, Ala., for the past eighteen years, was transferred to the Kelly Air Force Base, Texas, with the Air, Ground. Space, Equipment Management in December. He is a son of Gus Jesse west of Wray."

JANICE

"Army Pvt. Jerry O. Vibber, 22, son of Mrs. Hilda E. Vibber of Wray, is a member of the 269th Field Artillery Battalion which is being reassigned to Germany this month. The battalion was formerly stationed at Fort Carson, Colo. A switchboard operator in the battalion’s Battery C, Vibber entered the Army last July. He completed basic training at Fort Carson. Vibber attended Wray high school. His father, John N. Vibber, lives in Kensington, Kansas. "

May 1958 "Mrs. Gus Jesse was among several guests of Mrs. Earl Wakefield who had a farewell tea for her daughter, Janice Vibber, who is leaving for overseas around the last of the month to be with her husband. "

Janice was in Arizona in 2015, dying 28 Nov 2020.

GARY

September 1958 "Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Rice of Eckley have announced the engagement of their daughter Iris to Gary Wakefield, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wakefield of Eckley. Miss Rice graduated from the Eckley high school and will be a junior this fall at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Mr. Wakefield attended the University of Nebraska for two years after his graduation from the Eckley high school. He joined the navy in December and is now stationed at Memphis, Tenn., attending Naval Electronics School. No definite wedding plans have been made."

July 1962 "Among recent June brides was Miss Rosemary Bastyr, daughter of Mrs. John V. Bastyr of New Prague, Minn., who became the bride of Gary L. Wakefield, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wakefield of Eckley. Their vows were said at a ten o’clock double ring service on June 19 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. The bride’s brother, Reverend Robert J. Bastyr, officiated. The altar was decorated with i bouquets of red gladioli and white carnations. Miss Mary Kovarik was organist and Thomas Smisek was the vocalist. John J. Bastyr gave his sister in marriage. Her peau de soie wedding gown had a sweetheart neckline and full length sleeves. The bell shaped skirt was trimmed with appliques of alencon lace and the separate shaped train was attached at the back by a soft bow. Miss Mary Jane Bastyr of Minnesota, sister of the bride, was maid of honor and Miss Kay Ellis and Miss Jane Wakefield, sister of the groom, both of San Diego, were bridesmaids. They wore blue sheath dresses of nylon organdy with full overskirts tapering to a bow at the waist. Each carried a bouquet of white mums. Best man was the groom's brother, Dale Wakefield of San Diego, and groomsmen were David Wakefield of San Diego, another brother, and Richard Bastyr of New Prague, brother of the bride The reception and dinner followed at the New Prague Golf Club and afterward the couple left on a honeymoon trip through northern Minnesota. They will make their home in Fort Collins. The bride has been attending San Diego State College. The groom attended the University of Nebraska for two years and has Just completed four and a half years in the navy."

" With family by his side, Michael Calvin Johnston, age 45, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2011 from a brief illness.
Mike was born June 2, 5 1965 to Cal and Nancy Wakefield in Sterling, Colo, and was raised in Loveland. He graduated from Thompson Valley High School in 1983 and then continued on to Aims Community College. Shortly after, Mike married his high school sweetheart, Kelly Benke; they married in October, 1986 and settled in Fort Collins. The couple have two daughters, Rylee and Andi. Mike began a sales career at Johnson-Lomar Publishing Company. After 22 years in the industry, Mike shifted his focus to the outdoors and became a fly-fishing guide. His passion for the sport touched many lives and inspired fellow anglers. Mike could always be found on the river looking at bugs, tying flies or teaching his girls how to hook a brown. Mike enjoyed mountain biking, skiing, camping, cooking and taking afternoon siestas. His passion for athletics kept him very involved in his daughters' sports and activities - famous for his role as the Team Mom. His witty sense of humor and passion for life will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew Mike.
Mike is survived by his wife, Kelly Johnston; daughters Rylee and Andi Johnston; mother, Nancy Wakefield; grandmother, Elva Wakefield. "
