Andrew Metz, a coal miner, died February 15, 1903 in Hadley Brazil township, Clay County., age 53 years 5 months and 20 days.
He was to be buried in Cataga Hill cemetery.
September 10, 1909 Brazil, Indiana "About one o'clock this morning at the home,
740 north Vandalia street, occurred the death of Anna Metz, the young wife of David Hunter,
after about three weeks illness of cerebro meningitis.
Mrs. Hunter was the youngest daughter of Andrew and Bertha Metz of Hadleytown,
father having departed this something like six years ago, was born June 11, 1891, and
at the time of her death was 18 years, 2 months and 29 days of age.
Mrs. Hunter was a young woman of many virtues, and her early departure brings much grief
to the family and many friends throughout the entire community.
Those surviving are the husband and a baby daughter, aged 7 months, besides her mother,
Mrs. Bertha Metz of Hadleytown, three sisters and four brothers namely: Mrs. Thomas Connor of this city, Mrs. John Wake of Clinton and Mrs. Albert Funkhouser of Colorado. ,
The brothers are William and Adam Metz of this city, Peter and Henry Metz of West Terre Haute. The funeral discourse will take place at the family residence Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Fon-tain of Terre Haute will officiate; after which the remains will be laid to rest in the Cottage Hill cemetery."

January 1912 "One of the Funkhauser boys living west of town broke a tongue out of his wagon Tuesday in going out home. He was overtaken by Lew Corwin who hitched the disabled wagon behind his own to bring lit back to town but had not gotten far when he met w ith the same accident. The two men then borrowed a tongue from a nearby farmer and both wagons were brought in for repairs. The roads are surely some bad. "

August 1946 "Mr. and Mrs. Bert Funkhouser and their two sons and their
wives of Shenandoah, Iowa, arrived Monday to spend a week or so visiting at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Foltmer and with other friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Funkhouser are old time friends and neighbors
of the Foltmers, having lived southwest of Wray in the A. E. Miller
neighborhood about 35 years. This is their first visit back to Yuma county
since that time and they are renewing many acquaintanceships. "

"Pauline Hultquist, the daughter of Albert and Laura Metz Funkhouser,
was born April 8, 1913 in Wray, Colorado. She died on Saturday, December 16, 2000,
at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 8 days.
Pauline was raised in Shenandoah, Iowa and graduated from Shenandoah High School.
She was united in marriage to Cecil V. Hultquist on March 4, 1938 at Rockport, Missouri.
They moved to Red Oak after their marriage and then moved to Stanton in l960.
She had worked for Spurgeons Clothing Store in Red Oak. Pauline was a member of the
Presbyterian Church in Red Oak and Neighborhood clubs. She has been a resident of Stanton Care
Center since March of 1997.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband on October 12, 1978;
7 brothers and 3 sisters. Pauline is survived by two daughters:
Anne Herring and her husband Donald of Red Oak, Iowa;
and Karen Turner and her husband Jared of Bedford, Texas;
6 granddaughters: Annnette & Darren Paul, Donna & Mike Roby, Kelly & Doug Bond,
Tamara & Michael Cramer, Debbie Turner, Holly Turner;
10 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Andersen and her husband Gordon of Northboro, Iowa
and her twin brother, Paul Funkhouser of Farragut, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

"Son of Albert Daniel Funkhouser and Laura Carlene Metz. Married on March 22, 1935 in Shenandoah to Verna Cleven. They are blessed with three daughters; Yvonne, Judie and Sherry.
Paul Funkhouser the son of Albert Daniel and Laura Carlene (Metz) Funkhouser was born in a sod house at Wray, Colorado on April 8, 1913 and passed away at Shenandoah, Iowa on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the age of 94.
Paul moved to Shenandoah with his parents at the age of 3, attending school in Shenandoah. He was united in marriage to Verna Cleven on March 22, 1935 at Shenandoah, they celebrated 60 years of marriage before Verna's death. Paul served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. Paul worked for Funkhouser Shell Gas, Baron Oil, Skelly Oil, Ahlgrens Chevrolet, Cambier Chevrolet, and Funkhouser Used Cars.
Paul was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #88, Shenandoah Elks Club for 54 years, Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Department, and the American Legion Color Guard.
Paul enjoyed shuffle board, golf, playing Bridge and other card games. As a car salesman Paul enjoyed driving Cadillacs, Corvettes, and other sports cars.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verna; son-in-law, Dan Wegener; brothers, George, Orville, Max, John, Raymond, Robert and Albert; sisters, Marguerite, Pauline (twin sister), Darlene, and Marjorie.
Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne Thomson and husband John of Williamsport, MD., Judie Wegener of Englewood, CO., Sherry Shearer and husband Kirk of Farragut, IA.; one sister, Betty Livingston Andersen of Shenandoah, IA.; sisters-in-law, Lois Funkhouser of Shenandoah, IA., Mary Louise Funkhouser of Omaha, NE., and Dode Funkhouser Higgens in Arizona. Also many grandchildren and friends."
