January 30, 1908 "Comrade David Criswell, a former resident of this county,
but more recently of Granite Falls, Washm, died at that place Sunday, January 12, 1908,
of typhoid pneumonia, and was buried in the Grand Army Cemetery at Snohomish, Wash.,
Tuesday, January 14th.
Mr. Criswell was born in Venango county, Pa., June 8, 1841, and at the time of his death was
66 years, 7 months, and 4 days old.
At the beginning of the War of the Rebellion he enlisted in the 107th Regiment,
Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served until the close of the war,
being released by that event from a four and a half months confinement in rebel prisons.
After the war he removed to Fremont county, Iowa, and April 16, 1874, he was
married to Paula M. Gaylord near Tabor, Iowa. Five sons and one daughter were born to
this union, all being present with their mother at his bedside at the time of his
death except R. L. Criswell, who lives near this city.
He moved to Rawlins county March, 1885, first settling on a homestead ten miles
north of Atwood, moving in the spring of 1892 to Burntwood township,
where he lived with his family until 1902, when he removed to Granite Falls,
where he died. He was a devoted...z
He leaves a widow, one daughter, Miss Grace Criswell, and four sons,
Robert, Cloyd, Marsh and Walter, living in Granite Falls,
and Len who lives in Celia township."

"Funeral services were at 2 PM Tuesday for Royal L. Chriswell of Westfir at the Poole Larsen Chapel in Eugene. Rev. Lucille Johnson, pastor of the William __ette City Church of God, conducted the servides. Interment was at the Lane Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Criswell who resided on Star Route, Westfir, OR, passed a way in the Eugene hospital Thursday, Octomber 6, 1955, following a brief illness. He was 78 years of age.
Royal L. Criswell was born Nov. 3, 1876, at Sidney, Iowa, and had made his home at Westfir for the past several years. He was married Sept. 30, 1906, in Atwood, Kansas.
Besides his wife, Maude, he is survived by two sones, Bernard of Westfir and Oliver of Ahaska, Idaho; five daughters, Mabel Pacula of Ashland Neb., Ola Drew of Myrtle Creek, Ore., Julia Long of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Viola Rogers, of Lewellen, Neb., and Leta Gillett of Prineville, Ore.; 23 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and one brother, Marshall Criswell of Everett, Wash."

FLORENCE'S FAMILY
June 11, 1931 "Mahlon Howard Ward was born in Rochell, Ill., Sept. 11, 1860, and died
May 30, 1931, at Tecumseh, Neb., at the home of Harry Van Winkle, where he and his brother
made their home.
From Illinois he came to Iowa and there he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Case.
To this union were born four children. Three girls and one boy: Florence, Ival, Howard
and Gladys. Gladys passed away at the age of 6 months, and Florence Ward Criswell
passed away May 7, 1924, at Abarr, Colo, leaving two chlldren.
Mahlon Ward returned to Nebraska from Colorado. Then he was united in marriage to
Mrs. Lizzie Eley. Where he farmed until the death of his wife.
He leaves to mourn his death, two children: Mrs. Ivol Ashley, Yuma, Colo,
and Mr. Howard Ward, Wray, Colo, besides two sisters and one brother,
Mrs. Eva Orilck, St. Joseph, Mo.; Mrs. Lina Edwards, Vernon, Colo.;
William Ward, Tecumseh, Neb. There are six grandchidren, Charles and Dorothy Ashley,
Beryl and Robert Criswell, and Earlene and Beverly Ward.
The burial was at Humboldt, Neb., Monday, June 1, at 1:30."

May 6, 1915 "Cloyd Criswell and Miss Florence Ward were married last Wednesday in Wray.
They are making their home on the groom's farm in this precinct."

February 14, 1935 "The Gazette learns this week of the marriage of Mrs. Dolly Lofthouse,
well known Laird woman, to Mr. S. C. Criswell of Abarr, Colo.
The ceremony was performed on January 30th by Rev. G. A. Schwabauer, Methodist minister at
Benkelman, Neb., at his porsonage. The newlyweds had given their friends the slip and
after the ceremony went to Abarr where they visited until this week,
returning to Laird with the announcement of their wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. Criswell will make their home on Mrs. Lofthouse's place north of Laird and a host of friends extend congratulations."
December 21, 1944 "Cloyd Silas Criswell, a former resident of this county, died
on December 14 at the State hospital, Pueblo. He was born in Fremont county, Iowa,
on January 29, 1878. He came to Yuma county in 1908 and homesteaded near Vernon,
continuing his residence here until he went to Pueblo.
Two sons survive him: Beryl of Heartstrong and Robert of Joes.
Funeral services were held on Sunday at 2 o'clock at the Lockwood Mortuary,
conducted by Rev. E. T. Lewis."

July 31, 1941 "Ida May Case was born in Roshell, I11., to Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Case
on May 26, 1869, and passed away at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 2 days,
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Ashley, at Fort Morgan.
At an early age, she was one of nine children that moved to Creston, Iowa,
with her parents, where she grew into young womanhood. She was married to Mahlon Ward
in 1888. Five children were born unto this union, Mrs. Cloyde Criswell,
who preceeded her in death, Mrs. John Ashley, Mr. Howard Ward, and two children that
passed away in infancy. In 1905 they moved to Colorado.
Later in years she entered into matrimony with Thomas R. Baker.
Serving as a loving find faithful mate for 22 years. She leaves her husband,
Mr. Thomas Baker, of Laird, Colorado; two children,
Mrs. John Ashley of Fort Morgan, Colo., and Howard Ward of Denver, Colo.,
one sister, Mrs. Pearl Bonus of Creston, Iowa, two brothers, Mr. Art Case,
and Mr. Lace Case, also of Creston, six grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren
and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
Services were held Wednesday at 2 p. m., at the Hitchcock Funeral Home,
with Rev. Wm. Brown as minister. All pallbearers were grandsons,
except one who was a grand nephew. They were Chas. Ashley, of North Platte, Nebr.,
Harold Sisson of Akron, Robert and Burel Criswell, Heartstrong,
and Glen Blacker, the grand nephew of Vernon.
Burial was made in Grandview cemetery."

Mrs. Beryl Criswell of Heartstrong at the Wray hospital."
November 24, 1938 "Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Criswell are parents of a baby boy born at the Wray hospital last Thursday evening."
August 22, 1940 "A baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Criswell,
at home near Heartstrong."
"The baby daughter which was born January 19, 1942 to Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Criswell of
south of Eckley weighed six pounds and eight ounces at birth,
and has been named Betty Joyce, according to her father who called at The Gazette
office Monday to have his name added to our subscription list.
The father also informed us that we had erred in our story of the young lady's
birth in that while our account of the trip her parents had made was substantially correct, the baby actually was bom at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Boltjea."
