She was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. L. M. Foote,
and her sister, Mrs. Cassens, who will visit in the lake city the next few weeks."
1909 Wray
February 1910 "Sam Porter came down from Denver last week to attend the
funeral of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Foote, at Wray, and since that time is visiting
his parents here. "
February 18, 1910 "Mrs. R. C. Foote, nee Lydia Newton Harvey,
was born among the green hills of Connecticut, October 8th, 1833.
Here she lived her happy girlhood in tho old white farm house with its
green blinds and great maples, the home of hor fathor and grandfather.
She was educated at Bacon Academy, then one of the best schools in the
United States, and the same which her mother, her husband,
and later her children attended.
On March 3, 1857, she was mnrriod to Ralph C. Footo of Colchester.
In 1862 Mr. Foote, as captain of Co. H., Conn. Volunteers, enlisted in the
federal army and the young mother, with three young ones, was left to
watch and wait at home. Ten children were born to them, of whom nine lived
to maturity.
In 1878 the family moved to Minnesota, four years later
to southern Tennessee, and in 1886 to western Kansas where Mr. Foote died
in Juno 1891. After this she lived several years at Haigler, Nobr.,
and at Boulder, Colo.
Other griefs followed fast-the loss of hor only son, a mnrried daughter
and a dear brother. 'She had known sorrow, He had often supped with her
and broke for her the ashen crust,' yet she was cheerful and
her interest in life never failed. She had a great love of birds, flowers
and all things in nature. As age came on, Mrs. Foote seemed to grow daily
in loving unselfishness and eager helpfulness. Her thoughts were all
for others. A brother in Connecticut, a sister in Virginia, and one
in California survive her, and seven daughters are left to mourn the
loss of a mother whose loving kindness and gentleness never failed. Hers was
ever the part of the peacemaker, hers the soft answer that turneth away wrath,
hers the charity which never fails.
For the past four years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J. J.
Cassin, near Wray, where each summer many of her children gathered to visit
with her. To say that all who know her were her friends is but the simple truth.
On the evening of February 9th, without illness or pain, with all her facilities
unimpaired, she fell asleep.
The funeral was held at the Christian church in Wray, Rev. P. W. Walthall
officiating. Five sons-in-law and a grandson were the pall bearers.
All her children were present except Mrs. Mary Ballard, who was unable to make
the journey from Montrose. Burial was in the Wray cemetery, where her husband's body
will soon be laid beside her."
September 1912 Wray " The deal was closed last week wherein Carl & Boyes have
disposed of their blacksmith shop in Wray to Joe C. Foote of Boulder.
Mr. Foote assumed charge of the business Tuesday morning, October 1, and will
be associated in the work by his brother, Ralph Foote, under the firm name of Foote
Brothers. These young men are nephews of Mrs J. J. Cassens and have the appearance
of straight-forward business men who will make a success of their venture
and keep the business up to the standard maintained by their predecessors. "
March 1911 " Sam Porter of Denver stopped off in Wray last Friday on his way to Haigler
to visit his daughter, who attends the Wray school, making her home with her aunt, Mrs. J. J.
Cassens. Mr. Porter and Mrs. Cassens visited the schools."
June 1913 " Mrs. Sam Porter died at Colorado Springs yesterday morning where the family has been living for sonic time. Mrs. Porter was formerly Miss Foote of Hairier and was wellknown by:any of our citizens"
March 1911 Wray "H. M. Barrows,

the head of the river, will hold a public
sale of personal effects on Monday,
March 18. Mr. Barrows has lately made

September 1912 "Mrs. Henry Barrows returned home this week from California where she had been spending the summer."
"The Cassons are entertaining quite a number of visitors this week at the ranch
west of town. Mrs. J. D. Roberts and her son, Sanders, of Chicago, a sister of
Mrs. Cassen and two other sisters, Mrs. C. M. Corbett of Haigler, and Mrs. H. M. Barrows
of this place, together with Miss Ruth, daughter of Mrs. Barrows,
and two of Mrs. Cassen's nephews from Boulder, Joe and Ralph Foote, make up the company.
Mrs. Corbett and Mrs. Barrows have just
returned from a visit to California."
