Milo C. Bates passed away at the Haxtun Hospital on Saturday, May 11, 2002. He was 88.

Mr. Bates was born on May 2, 1914, on the family farm in the Wages community in northern Yuma County. He was the son of Chester and Edith (Clark) Bates. He received his education in local schools and also attended Waverly High School.

With the exception of a few months when the family lived in Missouri, Milo farmed in the Wages community with his father and brother, Gerald. He and Gerald sold the farm in the spring of 1969 and they purchased a home in Haxtun where they retired.

Milo and Gerald enjoyed many events during their retirement years. They spent many ours hunting, fishing and performing music.

When Gerald passed away in August of 1999, Milo moved into the Heritage Living Center where he resided until his death.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, George Sawyer, Grand Junction, and a nephew, Floyd Eckman, Palm Springs, California.

His parents; brother, Gerald; and sister Wilma Sawyer, preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Mr. Bates were held on Wednesday, may 15 at the Baucke funeral Home chapel in Yuma with Reverend Michael Bergman of Haxtun officiating. Interment followed in the Yuma Cemetery.
