TELLER COUNTY

Historical Buildings

Much of the State of Colorado was settled with the gold rush of the 1890's. Teller County, located in the central Rocky Mountains, wasn't any different. Though cattle ranching was the first industry, once gold was discovered, that changed. Tent cities sprang up and businesses moved in. At one point, assay offices were as abundant as grocery stores.

A visit to Teller County will take you to the Cripple Creek and Victor Mining District. Learn about the discovery of gold and the role it plays today in the economy. The area is rich, not only in gold, but in history. Check out the Florissant Fossil Beds and the famed Pike's Peak. Find out about the new industry that brings in much of the area's tourism today.
