Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 11, 1972 at Zion Lutheran Church, Holyoke, for Mrs. Arthur (Blanche) Schmidt, 78, who passed away Monday, October 9, at Melissa Memorial Hospital. Interment was in the Amherst Cemetery.
Blanche Jung Schmidt, daughter of Lewis and Jennie Aird, was born May 30, 1894 at Beldon, Nebraska. In 1910 she moved with her parents to Colorado and settled on a farm three and one-half miles east of Amherst. On March 24, 1915 she was united in marriage to Herbert H. Jung. To this union six children were born, two of which preceded her in death. A daughter, Roma, age 14, in March 1933 and a son, Melvin, age 17, in February 1937. On November 25, 1953, Mr. and Mrs. Jung moved to Holyoke, where they were living at the time of Herb’s death, August 24, 1954.
On September 5, 1963 she was united in marriage to Arthur G. Schmidt. Survivors include her husband, Art, two sons Claude of Amherst and John of Holyoke; two daughters Marie Millikin, Brule, Nebraska and Lorraine Smith of Colby, Kansas; two sisters, Grace Watkins, Camarillo, California and Eula Griggs of Hillrose; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 5, 1972, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Amherst, for E.C. Schmidt, 71, who passed away Sunday, July 2, at Melissa Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
Rev. Theo Schauland, pastor of the church, officiated at the services. Interment was in the Amherst Cemetery.
E.C. "Dick" Schmidt, son of Julius and Theresa Schmidt, was born February 28, 1901, at Friend, Nebraska, and was baptized May 5, 1901, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst, and remained a member of St. Paul's throughout his life. November 26, 1922, he was united in marriage to Meta Nierman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Meta, three daughters, Mrs. Werner [Elda] Lehman, Mrs. Paul [Lorraine] Kerstner and Mrs. Dwain [Rose] Schaeffer; three son-in-laws; 12 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Leben and Mrs. Elnora Einspahr, Holyoke; two brothers, W.H. [Bill] Schmidt, Amherst, and Arthur Schmidt, Holyoke; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Julius Schmidt, 91, dies; rites Tuesday, Amherst
Julius Schmidt, well known retired farmer, passed away Saturday, May 23, at the East Phillips County Hospital. He was 91 years of age and had resided in the Amherst community for 55 years. Mr. Schmidt, who had made his home with his children for the past several years, entered the local hospital on May 13 and underwent surgery on Friday, May 22.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 26, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst, with Rev. Theodore Schauland officiating. Interment was at the Amherst Cemetery. The Lewis Funeral Home of Holyoke was in charge of arrangements.
A son of John and Sophia Ross Schmidt, Julius Schmidt was born on September 12, 1872, in Downers Grove, Illinois, and moved to Nebraska with his parents at an early age. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Friend, Nebraska. On March 2, 1896, he was united in marriage to Theresa Schnase of Friend, Nebraska. To this union four sons and two daughters were born. The family moved from Friend to a farm near Amherst on September 23, 1909, residing there until 1918 and then moving to Amherst. Mr. Schmidt was a charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Amherst, which was organized in 1910.
Preceding Mr. Schmidt in death were one son, Carl, who died in infancy on June 18, 1915; his wife, Sophia, on August 10, 1941; and five brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur, Holyoke, and Eldor and Wilfred, Amherst; two daughters, Anna, Mrs. Walter Leben, and Mrs. Elnora Einspahr, both of Holyoke; one brother, William Schmidt, Friend, Nebraska; 17 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
