Funeral services were held Sunday, May 30, 1976, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Amherst, for Simon Krueger, 86, who passed away Thursday, May 27, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke.

 

Rev. Theo. Schauland, minister of the church, officiated at the services. Interment was in St.Paul's Cemetery, Amherst.

 

Simon Krueger, son of William and Elisa Renken* Krueger, was born on a farm near Blue Hill, Nebraska on February 4, 1890. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on April 13, 1890. He attended Lutheran school and was confirmed on March 27, 1904. He attended Seward College at Seward, Nebraska for a short time.

 

Mr. Krueger married Ida Van Boening on October 22, 1913, at Rosemont, Nebraska. They lived on a farm north of Blue Hill, Nebraska, where five daughters and two sons were born. The family moved to Amherst, Colorado, on March 6, 1930, to a farm five miles southeast of Amherst, where four more sons were born. Mr. and Mrs. Krueger retired from their farm in November 1960, and moved to Holyoke. Mr. Krueger moved to Sheridan Manor nursing home on May 26, 1973, where he resided until he was hospitalized on May 3 1976.

 

Mrs. Krueger preceded her husband in death on June 18, 1975. He was also preceded in death by his son Andrew, age 10 years and eight months; three brothers and four sisters.

 

He was the devoted father of 11 children. Surviving him are, Leona Brinkema, Chester Krueger and William Krueger of Holyoke; Lucia Vieselmeyer, Eunice Oltjenbruns, Russell Krueger and Jay Dean Krueger of Amherst; Laurine Ackerman, Portland, Oregon; Ida Nierman, Grand Junction,and Daniel Krueger, Arvada.

 

Thirty nine grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; two sisters, Tena Redman, Holyoke, and Charlotte Vogel, Kansas City; two brothers, Antone, California, and Bill of Texas, and a host of relatives and friends.
