Ruth Elizabeth Riley Dubbert, 83, of Holyoke passed away on Mother's Day, May 9, 1999 at Melissa Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 4, 1916, in rural Yuma County to Byron and Belle [Murray] Riley, the second of three daughters.
Ruth attended a rural school in Yuma County through the eighth grade, then she, along with her mother and sister Betty, moved to Holyoke in 1931. Ruth graduated from Phillips County High School with the class of 1935.
Ruth was united in marriage to August "Gus" Dubbert in 1937, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Rev. Francis J. Brady was celebrant at the wedding mass. To this union were born two children, Riley and Mary Beth. The Dubberts made their home northeast of Holyoke and were involved in farming. Following the death of her husband, Ruth moved to Holyoke in 1967. She lived in her home on South Interocean until her death.
Mrs. Dubbert was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Holyoke. She served in the Altar and Rosary Society and the Martha and Mary Circle. Her Catholic faith meant a great deal to Ruth. She enjoyed gardening, and spent hours tending her lovely flower beds.
Ruth was known to rise early, passing the quiet, peaceful hours of the morning in her kitchen baking. Her daily routine included tea times, when she had hot tea and cookies, often hosting family members or friends. Ruth's family was very important to her. She treasured family time and was grateful that most of her family lived close enough to visit her often.
Ruth Dubbert will be remembered as a positive person with a delightful sense of humor who loved life so much.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Belle Riley; her husband, August Dubbert; a sister, Betty Sullivan; and a great-grandson, Jared Schilke.
Survivors include her son, Riley Dubbert and wife, Dee Ann, of Holyoke; her daughter, Mary Beth Kramer and husband, Roger, of Holyoke; sister, Pearl Davis and husband, Lawrence of Holyoke; brother-in-law Tim Sullivan of Tucson, AZ; five granddaughters, Debra Blakeman and husband, Theodore, of North Platte, NE, Tamara Kroeger and husband, Bryan of Paoli, Brenda Krueger and husband, Anthony, of Amherst, Lisa Schilke and husband, Tim, of Imperial, NE, Kathi Stoner and husband, Jason, of Greeley; and eight great-grandchildren, Krista and Zachary Blakeman, Kassie, Kendall and Gunnar Kroeger, Tara Krueger, Derek Schilke and Meghan Stoner.
