Last rites for Raymond L. Heller of Holyoke were conducted on Friday afternoon at the Lewis Funeral home and the Holyoke Lutheran church. Rev. R. Einspahr officiated. Burial was in Holyoke Memorial park.

 

Mr. Heller, who was 34 years old, died late Friday afternoon of injuries sustained when the truck he was driving went out of control on a graveled road northeast of Holyoke. Death was instantaneous.

 

Raymond Lloyd Heller, a son of Mr. And Mrs. Roy Heller of Holyoke was born in Holyoke on June 5, 1918, while his parents were living on what is known as the old W. C. Heller farm 12 miles northwest of Holyoke. He spent his boyhood and youth in that community and attended the Beachville school when he was a boy.

 

In September, 1940, he enlisted in the army and served in the Medical Corps for more than five years, receiving his discharge in Denver, 1945. While in the army he spent three years at Fitzsimons hospital in Denver and about 18 months in the Pacific theatre during World Way II. He had been a member of the local American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts. He was a member of the Holyoke Lutheran Church, having been confirmed on May 31, 1947. The family moved to Holyoke from the farm on May 30, 1950.

 

After leaving the service, Mr. Heller worked on the farm until accepting a position with the Phillips County highway department a little more than two years ago. He was driving a county dump truck at the time of his death.

 

Surviving Mr. Heller are his parents; one brother, Leslie Heller; his aged grandfather, A. C. Cauble, and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters who died in infancy.
