CARL RADTKE, 82, DIES; FUNERAL AT LUTHERAN CHURCH

 

Last rites were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke for Carl August Radtke, 82, on Tuesday afternoon, October 20, with the Rev. Theodore Schauland of Amherst officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home.

 

Carl August Radtke, the son of Ferdinand Radtke and Augusta Wendorf Radtke, was born on May 6, 1882, in Naugard, Germany, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. His confirmation took place on March 29, 1896, in Cortzig, Germany. He came to America in May, 1910, and began farming at Pierce, Nebraska. On November 25, 1909 he was united in marriage with Frieda Eichele. Three daughters and one son were born to this union.

 

The Radtkes moved to Colorado in 1909 where farming operations were continued at Amherst. They moved in 1912 to the Pleasant Valley community where they resided until moving to Holyoke in 1949.

 

Mr. Radtke was a charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Amherst, which was organized in 1910. He had been in failing health for about four months and passed away last Friday evening, October 16, in an ambulance enroute to the hospital in Sterling.

 

Mr. Radtke was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mable, who passed away in 1924. Survivors include his wife, Frieda; two daughters, Edna, Mrs. Frank Souders of Keenesberg; Marguerite, Mrs. John Triplett of Holyoke; and one son, Floyd, of Holyoke; one sister, Louise Radtke, Holyoke; one brother, William Radtke, Amherst; and six grandchildren.

 

 

 

 

FLOYD “PETE” CARL RADTKE

Floyd “Pete” Carl Radtke of Holyoke was born January 3, 1915 in Holyoke to Carl A. and Freida Eichle Radtke. He passed away Thursday, September 29, 1994 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.

 

Pete, a lifelong resident of Holyoke, worked all his life as a farmer. He farmed with the family until 1949 at which time he moved to town. He worked for area farmers until his retirement in the early

1970s.

He enjoyed fishing, flower gardening and liked to go for rides in the truck with Sugar Triplette. Pete enjoyed helping others and assisting fellow residents at SunSet View by taking them places and helping them with errands. He was especially fond of playing cards at SunSet View. Pete was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holyoke, where he had been a greeter and an usher for many years.

 

He is survived by his nieces and nephews including Charlie and Sugar Triplette and Steve and Betsy Triplette and cousin Reiny Radtke of Holyoke.

 

Services were held Monday, October 3 at the First Baptist Church of Holyoke with Rev. Gary Jones officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Holyoke.

 

 

 

 

 

FRIEDA (EICHELE) RADTKE

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 27, 1977, from the United Methodist church in Holyoke for Frieda S. Radtke, who passed away Saturday, April 23, at Melissa Memorial Hospital. Rev. Eldon Shoemaker officiated at the services. Interment was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

 

Freida Sophia Radtke, daughter of Carl and Minnie Eichele, was born January 22, 1891, in Phillips County, Colorado. She and Carl August Radtke were married November 25, 1909. They farmed in the Amherst area until moving to Pleasant Valley in 1912 where they resided until moving t Holyoke in 1949.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Radtke, and her daughters Mabel Radtke, Edna Souders, and Margaret H. Triplette.

 

She is survived by a son, Floyd Radtke of Holyoke; granddaughters, Doris Meyers of Wilsonville, Nebraska, Linda Baumgartner of Keensburg, Mary Miller of Kersey, Vianna Linnebur of Roggin, Rosalie Hoffman of Santanta, Kansas, grandsons Chuck and Steve Triplette of Holyoke, and 18 great grandchildren.
