ROANN SUE (GODDARD) POE

RoAnn Sue Goddard Poe of Holyoke was born July 15, 1951 in Sterling, the daughter of Ann and Gaylord Goddard. She passed away Thursday, February 15, 1996 at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke.
RoAnn grew up on the Dailey area and graduated from Haxtun High School and then an airline school in Denver. She married Elwin Poe March 11, 1984 and they made their home 13 miles southeast of Holyoke in the Amitie Community. RoAnn was a member of the First Christian Church of Holyoke and Eureka Club. She was an avid sports fan and was a great supporter of her children's athletics.
RoAnn entered this world as a tiny, 3 pound, 6 ounce baby. It was discovered in her very early years that she had a heart condition. After medical tests in Denver she was sent home. Her folks then took her to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and at the age of 5, RoAnn was one of the pioneers in open-heart surgery. The success of the surgery allowed her to have a family and enjoy a normal life.
Survivors include her husband Elwin; sons Jeffrey of Lamar and Wesley of the family home; her husband's children, Dan Poe and wife Narda of Midland, TX, Kirk Poe and wife Sharon of Big Springs, NE and Lori Hoffman and husband Jim of Atwood; six grandchildren; her parents Gaylord and Ann Goddard of Dailey; sister Gay McDaniel and husband Dick of Haxtun; brother Claude Goddard and wife JoAnn of Haxtun; one niece; five nephews; a grand nephew; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of neighbors and friends.
Services were held Tuesday, February 20, 1996 at First Christian Church of Holyoke with Jim Blake, minister, officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Holyoke.
