AMELIA ANNA (WELPER) OLTJENBRUNS

Amelia Anna (Welper) Oltjenbruns, the eldest daughter of August and Emma (Reische) Welper, was born October 23, 1894, on a homestead in Dawes County, south of Chadron, NE. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith December 18, 1894, at Chadron. In 1897 the family moved to Lyons, NE where she attended German Lutheran school and was confirmed April 12, 1908.
When Amelia was 16 years old, the family moved to Osmond, Pierce County, NE where she met Harry Oltjenbruns. Harry and Amelia were married in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Osmond February 8, 1917. They farmed in that area until 1919 when they, along with daughter Clara, moved to Holyoke, where twin sons Elton and Milton and daughters Evelyn and Glendora were born. They moved to a farm southwest of Amherst in the spring of 1939.
In 1947 Harry and Amelia retired from the farm and moved into Amherst. Amelia spent the past six years as a resident of Prairie Vista Nursing Home. On May 19, 1989, she entered the Sterling hospital, where she passed away early Monday morning, June 19 at the age of 94 years, 7 months and 27 days.
Survivors include five children, Clara and husband Lawrence Heermann of Sterling, Elton and wife Eunice, Milton and wife Leona of Holyoke, Evelyn and husband Harry Franson of Amherst and Glendora Severson of Loveland; 18 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, one brother, three sisters and a son-in-law, Glen Severson.
Services were held Thursday, June 22 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst, with burial in the Amherst cemetery.

HARRY OLTJENBRUNS RITES APRIL 29
Harry Frank Oltjenbruns, the eldest son of Gerhard and Meta Meiners Oltjenbruns, passed away April 26, 1988 at the Logan County Hospital in Sterling.
He was born May 12, 1894 in York County, Nebraska. He lived there with his parents until 1900 when they moved to Madison, Nebraska. In 1903 they moved to Pierce County, Nebraska. Here he grew to manhood and on February 8, 1917 he and Amelia Welper were married in the Lutheran Church at Osmond, Nebraska, where they started farming and raising a family. There, Clara their daughter was born.
In the winter of 1919 they had a farm sale and moved by emigrant car to Holyoke, where they built a home and broke sod on a half section southwest of town. In the summer of 1920, twin sons, Elton and Milton were born. Later two daughters Evelyn and Glendora were born to this union. The spring of 1939 brought another move to a farm southwest of Amherst, and in June of 1947 Harry and Amelia moved into Amherst where he lived until a week before his death.
Harry was baptized into the Christian faith as an infant, confirmed in the Lutheran Church as a youth and has been an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke for 20 years, and a member of St. Paul's of Amherst the past 48 years.
Harry was always interested in agriculture and saw big changes take place in farming from the walking plow to the diesel powered machinery of today.
Survivors include his wife Amelia, daughter Clara and her husband Laurence Heermann of Sterling, son Elton and wife Eunice of Holyoke, son Milton and wife Leona of Holyoke, daughter Evelyn and husband Harry Franson of Amherst, daughter Glendora of Loveland, 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, six brothers, two sisters and a son-in-law Glen Severson.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst,
the Rev. John Larson officiating, with interment in the Amherst cemetery.
