Funeral services were held Monday, February 4, 1974, from the United Methodist Church, Holyoke, for Claude V. North, 71, who passed away Friday, February 1 at Melissa Memorial Hospital, Holyoke.

 

Rev. Evan Brian, minister of the church, officiated at the services. Interment was in Pleasant Valley cemetery. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

 

Claude V. North, son of George and Suzanne (Yount) North, was born southeast of Holyoke on August 1, 1903. He lived most of his life in the Holyoke community. September 3, 1927, he was united in marriage with Goldie E. Hall, and to this union three children were born. He became a member of the Methodist church as a boy when living with his sister in Otis. He was a member of the American and Midwest Hereford association during the time he was engaged in farming and raising Hereford cattle. In 1960 the family moved to Holyoake where he was residing at the time of his death.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sister, and two brothers. He is survived by his wife Goldie; a son Royce, Arvada; two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Berdine) Koberstein, Holyoke and Mrs. Allen (Linda) McDonald, Tucson, Arizona; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Martin, Holyoke, Mrs. Mildred Powers, Farmington, New Mexico, and Mrs. Emma Hill, Imperial, Nebraska; a brother, Bruce, Bazine, Kansas; nine grandchildren; one great granddaughter, and many other relatives and friends.

 

 

GEORGE NORTH

GEORGE NORTH DIED AT HOME OF DAUGHTER SUNDAY MORN

 

George North, for 26 years a resident near Holyoke, died early Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L.E. Harmon. Mr. North was 71 years of age, and was born in Sullivan, Indiana, December 24, 1855. His wife preceded him in death several years. They were the parents of 11 children, the majority of whom are living.

 

Funeral services were held yesterday at the Pleasant Valley school house, with Rev. Otis Webb of Lamar preaching the funeral sermon. Interment was made in the State Line cemetery, Colver Brothers were in charge of the body. Mr. North was one of the respected old settlers of the community. He was well known to all the other pioneer residents, and a large number attended the funeral to pay their last respects to him

 

 

 

 

 

GOLDIE E. (HALL) NORTH

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13, 1980, at the First United Methodist Church in Holyoke for Goldie E. North, 79, who passed away Saturday, February 9. Rev. Eldon Shoemaker, minister of the church, officiated at the services. Interment was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

 

Goldie Evelyn Penay Hall North, daughter of George O. and Miranda E. Hall, was born January 15, 1901, Southeast of Holyoke. She lived most of her life in the Holyoke Community. Part of her youth was spent in Lamar, Nebraska with her family, while teaching school at Pleasant Valley. She graduated from high school in Franklin, Nebraska and received her lifetime Certificate from Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley.

 

On September 3, 1927, while teaching school at Pleasant Valley, she was united in marriage with Claude V. North. To this union three children were born. Most of her adult years were spent in the dual role of teaching school, probably her first priority, and raising her family. She taught in Paoli, Pleasant Valley, Amity, Hillsdale in Yuma County, Amherst, and in 1955 began teaching in Holyoke. In 1960 the family moved to Holyoke, and Goldie retired from teaching in 1966.

 

Goldie continued active, after retirement. She became the Public Librarian until 1976. In 1977 she moved to Sunset View where she resided at the time of her death. She had continued active with the Phillips County Historical Mental Health Clinic, Congregate Meals, Senior Citizens, Navy Mothers. She was a member of this Methodist Church.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by a son, Royce V. North and his wife Shirley of Arvada, Mrs. Ray (Berdine) Koberstein and her husband Swede, of Holyoke; Mrs. Allen (Linda) McDonald and her husband, Allen, of Vicenza, Italy; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Mead and Mrs. Bertha Klein of Imperial, Nebraska, and many other relative and friends.

 

 

 

 

MICHAEL NORTH

 

 

Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado April 11, 1957

 

MICHAEL NORTH DIES IN DENVER; SERVICE MONDAY

 

Michael D. North, 63, of Lamar, Nebraska, who resided southeast of Holyoke for a number of years, passed away at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Veterans Administration Hospital in Denver. He had been in poor health for eight years and entered the hospital in Denver last March 11. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Holyoke Methodist church, with Rev. J. Wilson Branstetter and Rev. Donald Shaw officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Lewis Funeral Home.

 

A son of George W. and Susan Yount North, Michael David North was born December 11, 1893, at Essex, Iowa. When 7 years of age he moved with his parents to a farm southeast of Holyoke.  Mr. North enlisted in the United States Army on April 29, 1918, and served with the American Expeditionary Force in France during World War I. He received his discharge from the Army on June 3, 1919. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Holtzman on June 5, 1925 at Julesburg. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Celene Brady, who resides at Imperial, Nebraska.

 

Surviving Mr. North are his wife and daughter; three grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Grace Gregg, Indianapolis, Indiana, Blanche (Mrs. Elmer Harmon), Mrs. Mary Martin and Emma (Mrs. Herbert Briggs), Holyoke, and Mrs. Mildred Power, Lynwood, California; three brothers, Albert North, Salem, Oregon, Bruce North, Bazine, Kansas, and Claude North, Holyoke, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
