ROYCE VELORE NORTH

Royce Velore North was born October 26, 1927, in Holyoke, to Claude Velore and Goldie Evelyn P. [Hall] North. Royce was one of three children. He died Sunday, September 19, 1999, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, at the age of 71.

 

Royce attended school in Holyoke and then entered the United States Navy on September 18, 1945, when he was a junior in high school. He completed his education while he was in the service and fought during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on October 22, 1948. Royce enlisted in the United States Air Force on February 3, 1949. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant on January 31, 1966, while he was stationed at Lowery Air Force Base. Royce lived and worked as a systems analyst for Colorado Farm Bureau in Denver following his retirement from the Air Force. He moved back to Holyoke in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion in Venango, Nebraska and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Holyoke.

 

Royce was united in marriage to Shirley Burton in 1950. To this union were born two children, Stephen and Debbie.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his son Stephen D. North of Westminster; his daughter Debbie K. North of Lakewood; two sisters, Berdine Koberstein and her husband Ray [Swede] of Holyoke and Linda Faye McDonald and her husband Allen of Tucson, Arizona; and two grandchildren, Daryl and Carly North of Westminster. Memorial services for Royce Velore North were held Thursday, September 23 at the Schmidt-Baucke Chapel in Holyoke. Rev. Gary Jones officiated at the services which included full military rites.

 

 

 

 

SUSANNAH MARGARET (YOUNT ) NORTH

 

 

Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, May 9, 1919

 

Susannah Margaret Yount was born at Harrison City, Pennsylvania, June 17, 1863, and died at her home near Holyoke on May 3, 1919, at the age of 56 years, 10 months and 17 days. She was married to George W. North July 17, 1881 and to this union were born Mae, Grace, Blanche, Zelpha, Albert, Mike, Mary, Emma, Mildred, Claude and Bruce. Mae and Zelpha preceded their mother in death, they having passed to their reward some time ago. Mrs. North became a member of the Baptist church in 1892 and was a firm believer in that faith at the time of her death.

 

The funeral services were held at the State Line Church and were conducted by Rev. J.M. Dickey. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near the church.

 

Mrs. North was a woman highly respected and greatly loved by all who know her and was of the true type of womanhood thinking of nothing but the welfare of others, her home and her children.

A host of friends join with the relatives in mourning the loss of Mrs. George W. North.

MRS. GEORGE NORTH DIES

 

Susanna Margaret Yount was born in Harrison City, Pennsylvania, June 17, 1863 and died May 3, 1919 at her home in Phillips County, Colorado, age 55 years, 10 months, and 16 days. She was married on July 17, 1881 to George North who survives her. To them were born ten children, Mae, Grace, Zelphia, Blanche, Albert, Mike, Mary, Emma, Claude and Bruce. Mae and Zelphia preceded her in death. She united with the Baptist church in 1892. The family has resided in this county for a number of years where she had a large acquaintance and has always been highly esteemed by all who made her acquaintance.

 

The funeral services were conducted from the State Line Church Sunday May 4, Rev. J. M. Dickey of the Holyoke Methodist church preaching the sermon to a large congregation of sympathizing friends. The body was laid to rest in the little cemetery near the church.
