Mrs. Fred Nierman Died Saturday from Cancer

Mrs. Fred Nierman of Amherst died Saturday from cancer of the bowels. She was brought to the Holyoke Hospital shortly before she died, but efforts made there to prolong her life were fruitless, and she passed away there Saturday. Ida Nierman was born near Scribner, Nebraska, January 19, 1874, and died at the Holyoke hospital February 27, 1926. Age 52 years 1 month 8 days.

She had a cheerful sunshiny disposition always looking on the bright side of things and a nature which made all who knew her love her. She had very big ideals and tried in all her actions to do the right. She was the mother of 6 children, and all are living: Alena, Fritz, Otto and Clarence Nierman, Mrs. A. Schmidt, Mrs. Dick Schmidt. She leaves a husband, three sisters and a brother besides the children to mourn.

Funeral services were held in the Lutheran church and she was laid to rest in the Amherst

Asleep in Jesus! blessed sleep!

From which none ever wakes to weep;

A calm and undisturbed repose,

Unbroken by the last of foes.

Mrs. Ida Stark Nierman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Stark, deceased, was born January 19th, 1874 at Scribner, Dodge County, Nebraska. In early age she moved with her parents to Pierce County, Nebraska, where she lived near Plainview. Here she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church at the age of 14 years.

On February 9th, 1893 she was united in marriage to Fred Nierman and became a loving, devoted companion and a cheerful, patient home maker. Her everyday life was marked with a fine degree of careful neatness and her conversation was always along lines of purity and virtue, never speaking ill of anyone. This home was blessed with six children, three sons and three daughters, who grew up under her careful motherly instructions.

Last September physicians found Mrs. Nierman afflicted with bowel trouble. Later an operation was performed and her trouble proved to be a cancer of the bowel. She was confined to her bed almost continuously thereafter and her suffering, though very intense at times, was born with patience and cheerfulness, trusting in God from whom she received help and comfort.

On Saturday morning February 27 at 11:15 o'clock, her spirit took its flight to the realms of glory, and a good woman, a devoted companion and mother, a true friend and neighbor passed away at the age of 52 years, 1 month and 8 days.

Besides her husband she leaves to mourn 6 children: Otto, Clarence, Esther, Meta, Fritz and Alena; one daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law and eight grandchildren; also three sisters and one brother, Emilie Nierman and Emma Spath of Osmond, Nebraska; Anna Rehfeld of Amherst, and Frank Stark of Plainview, Nebraska and a great number of relatives and friends.

Yet we feel sure that she is now in the Heavenly Home where there is no more pain and sorrow and all is peace and joy to those that love God.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Amherst, Rev. Otto Hoyer officiating. Interment was made in the Lutheran cemetery at Amherst.
