Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, CO, March 12, 1992

Martha Elizabeth(White) Burchett was born August 14, 1919 in Holyoke to William A. and Minnie Conklin White. She died at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke Tuesday, March 3, 1992.

She grew up in Holyoke and graduated from Phillips County High School. She attended Denver Beauty Academy and later returned to Holyoke to open her own beauty shop. She operated Martha Jo's Beauty Shop for many years.

Martha and Mack E. Burchett were united in marriage on March 30, 1953 in Fort Morgan. They continued to live in Holyoke until 1961 when they moved to Denver. Martha worked as a beauty operator and later worked in the Jefferson County Motor Vehicle Department.

In semi-retirement, Mack and Martha moved to Glenwood Springs where they could be close to the hunting and fishing they loved so much. From this base they enjoyed motoring throughout the U.S. and part of Canada on business trips and vacations.

Martha was known to her family as a hard working wife and mother. Her children remember her always being there for them. The great outdoors was her playground and camping trips were her favorite family pastime. She also enjoyed sports and excelled at playing softball.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Royal Neighbors of America and the Holyoke American Legion Auxiliary.

Alzheimer's disease began to overcome Martha about 10 years ago and she continued her fight to maintain a normal family life until she entered Prairie Vista Care Center about 8 months ago. She lost her courageous battle with the disease last Tuesday. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents; half-brothers Lloyd, Glenn, Clark, Robert and Phillip White and their spouses; a sister Josephine Ann Morgan and a brother William A. White Jr.

She is survived by husband Mack of Holyoke; children Jo Ann Broughton Holzer and husband Timothy of Arvada and James Broughton and wife Beverly of Gaithersburg, Maryland; stepsons and wives Roger and Barbara Burchett of Golden and Dennis and Janeen Burchett of Greeley; sister Mary Brunken of Holyoke; 13 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Services were held on Saturday, March 7, 1992 at the First United Methodist Church in Holyoke with burial following in the Holyoke Memorial Park.
