Marie Millage, age 94, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 20, 2016 in Holyoke, CO. Marie was born September 30, 1921 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to George and Gladys Murray.
Marie attended schools in Idaho, California, and Utah; graduating with the class of 1938 from Ogden High School, Ogden, Utah at age 16. After attending Henager Business College in Salt Lake City and taking a Civil Service Examination, Marie was employed as a secretary in the War Department, Corps of Engineers, at the Ogden Ordinana Depot. It was here that she met Harold C. Millage who was employed as a Process Engineer. They were married September 13th, 1942.
After a year, they were transferred to San Diego, CA where Stephen and Karen were born. In 1947, they moved to Holyoke so Harold could go into the farming and ranching business with his dad, Carl, and twin brother, Gerald. Subsequently, Mark, Wayne, and Debbie were born.
Marie became a member of the First Christian Church in 1949 and sang in the choir for many years. She also sang in a ladies trio with her sister-in-law, Lorraine, and friend, Vera Garland Beal, accompanied by Frances Beal. They sang at many weddings, funerals, and assorted community events. She was involved with the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, President of PTA, member of Eastern Star, Agenda Club, and was an avid bridge player. She also enjoyed golf, bowling, tennis and watching the CU Buffs. Around 1968 when sugar beets became an important crop for Holyoke farmers Marie started weighing beets and was employed by Great Western Sugar Co. for over 20 years. She also worked part time at Brown's Auction's Service as their cashier for some 25 years. Harold and Marie enjoyed traveling and were fortunate to have visited several countries in Europe, Australia, Japan, South Sea Islands, Brazil, Hawaii, and South Africa.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gladys Murray; husband Harold; brother, Bish; sister and brother-in-law Leah and Max Johnson; sister Pam Craven and grandson, Jamie Milner She is survived by son Stephen and wife Jan, of Holyoke; daughter Karen and Ron Darrell of Sterling; son Mark and wife Marcia of Castle Rock; son Wayne and wife Nanette of Fort Collins; and daughter Debra and husband Jeff Absmeier of Berthoud.
A funeral service will be held Friday, February 26, 2016 at 10:30 at the First Christian Church in Holyoke, Colorado with internment to follow at the Holyoke cemetery
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Holyoke or the music department of the Holyoke schools.
