Louisa Burns of Julesburg was born March 11, 1911 to Ernest Veach Colvin and Aggie Frances Mains Colvin on a farm near Gibson City, Illinois. She died July 24, 1994 at the Sierra Fiesta Health Care Center in Loveland at the age of 83.

 

Mary Louisa graduated from Drummer Township High School at Gibson City and also from Brown's Business College at Bloomington, Illinois.

 

On September 1, 1929 she married Ralph Burns of Wiley. They set up housekeeping on a farm north and east of Wiley. In the early 30s they moved to Illinois for a year but due to Ralph's health they returned to Colorado, this time

settling on a ranch between Holyoke and Wray.

 

In 1946, they moved to Holyoke where she worked for the school district for a couple of years. Later they moved to Julesburg.

 

Mary Louisa worked as a bookkeeper for Davis Motors and also served as Sedgwick County Clerk. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Julesburg business and Professional Women's Club. She loved cooking, gardening, music, reading, crocheting and was a devoted, loving caretaker for her husband through his long illness which ended in his death on February 12, 1994.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Alma Colvin, Grace Moody and Gladys Bradel, son Ernest Aaron who died of polio in 1946 at age 16 and her husband.

 

Survivors include son Edward and his wife Martha of Jefferson, Georgia, granddaughters Eva and Launa Burns of Los Angeles, California and Misty Burns of Jefferson, Georgia, sister Bernace Anderson of Loveland and numerous

nieces and nephews.

 

Services were held Tuesday, July 26, 1994 at the Christian Church in Julesburg with Pastor Mark Imel officiating. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park.
