RITES AT AMHERST FOR A.F. KRUEGER, PIONEER RESIDENT

 

Memorial services for Albert F. Krueger of Denver, longtime resident of the Amherst community, were conducted Tuesday morning, March 22, at Olinger's mortuary in Denver and last rites were held Wednesday morning, March 23, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst. Interment was at the Amherst cemetery. Rev. W.G. Polack of Emmanus Lutheran Church in Denver officiated at both services.

 

Mr. Krueger, who was 86 years of age, passed away March 20 at Lutheran Hospital in Denver following an illness of little more than a month. He suffered a stroke and then developed double pneumonia. Mr. Krueger's home in Denver was at 2541 Wolf Street. He was the father of Mrs. Oscar Beal, Amherst, and a brother of Simon Krueger, Holyoke.

 

A son of William and Elizabeth Renken Krueger, Albert F. Krueger was born May 28, 1879, at Crete, Nebraska and was reared and educated at Blue Hill, Nebraska. On March 6, 1904, he was united in marriage to Alvina Sommerfeld. To this union nine children were born.

 

Mr. Krueger was a pioneer farmer in Phillips County. He and a brother, Tony, started breaking sod in Colorado in the summer of 1917, living in a tent while much of the area was still free range cattle country, and they continued in this occupation for the next two summers. In 1919, Mr. Krueger brought his wife and five small daughters with him and they made their home for a time in a four-wheel, two-room cook shack.

 

He built a home near the old Ed Butterfield ranch and moved his family there in 1920. Mr. Krueger farmed through the hardships of the dust bowl days in the 1930s.

 

He was a member of the building committee of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst and also helped build Bethlehem Lutheran Church after moving to Denver in 1940. He was engaged in the construction business in Denver of some time. Mr. Krueger was a member of Emmanus Lutheran Church in Denver.

 

Mrs. Krueger preceded her husband in death on May 27, 1961. Also preceding him in death was his oldest daughter, Mrs. Evaline Butterfield, who passed away on February 13, 1966, and an infant son, Irvin.

 

Among those surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Frieda Beal, Amherst, Mrs. Irma Gruenwald, Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Rosette Brinkman and Mrs. Lenore Farr, Denver, and Mrs. Gertrude Powell, Lakewood; two sons, Alvin, Cypress, California and Albert Jr., Lakewood; three brothers, Simon Krueger, Holyoke, William Krueger, Dallas, Texas, and Tony Krueger, Los Angeles, California; two sisters, Mrs. Tena Redman, Colorado Springs, and Mrs. Charlotte Vogel, Kansas City, Kansas; 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

MRS. A.F. KRUEGER RITES AT AMHERST

 

Funeral services for Mrs. A.F. Krueger of Denver, formerly of Amherst, were held Monday morning, May 29, at Olinger’s mortuary in Denver and at 2:30 that afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst. Rev. W.H. Remmert of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Lakewood, was in charge of the services. Rev. Theodore Schauland, pastor of the Amherst Lutheran Church officiated at the graveside service. Interment was at the Amherst cemetery.

 

Mrs. Krueger passed away Saturday, May 27, at her home at 2541 Wolf Street in Denver following a long illness. She was 77 years of age.

 

As Alvina Dora Sommerfeld, Mrs. Krueger was born April 16, 1884 in Marshall County, near Varna, Illinois. She was baptized by Rev. A. Sippel at Varna and was confirmed at La Rose, Illinois. While still a young girl she moved to Blue Hill, Nebraska with her parents. On March 6, 1904, she was united in marriage to A.F. Krueger at Blue Hill. Mr. Krueger started farming seven miles southeast of Amherst in 1917, and brought his family to that farm in 1920. Mr. and Mrs. Krueger left the farm and moved to Denver in 1940. Mrs. Krueger was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakewood.

 

Survivors include her husband, A.F. Krueger; two sons, Alvin Krueger, Anaheim, California and Albert Krueger Jr., Long Beach, California; six daughters, Evaline (Mrs. Harvey Butterfield), Arvada, Frieda (Mrs. Oscar Beal), Amherst, Irma (Mrs. Alvin Gruenwald), Dallas, Texas, Rosette (Mrs. Fred Brinkman), Lenora, (Mrs. Vern Varr), and Gertrude (Mrs. Frank Powell), all of Denver; three brothers, John Sommerfeld, Hastings, Nebraska, Carl Sommerfeld, Blue Hill, Nebraska, and Ernest Sommerfeld, Wray; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Johnson, Hastings, Nebraska and Mrs. Anna Meyer, Blue Hill, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Preceding Mrs. Krueger in death was one son, Erwin Albert, who died when a small child.

RITES HELD FOR AMHERST YOUTH

 

Andrew Krueger Dies In Haxtun Hospital After Brief Illness

 

Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church at Amherst Monday afternoon for Andrew Albert Krueger, ten year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Krueger of Amherst. The youth had passed away last Friday at a Haxtun hospital, where he had been taken Thursday for medical attention after having become suddenly ill last Wednesday. He submitted to an operation for ruptured appendix on Thursday evening, but peritonitis had set in, and he died Friday morning.

 

Andrew was born May 23, 1925, north of Blue Hill, Nebraska in Adams County. He was baptized in the Trinity Lutheran Church at Blue Hill on June 21, 1925. The family moved to Colorado March 6, 1930, and he began his schooling in the Lutheran school in Amherst that fall.

 

He is survived by his parents, by five sisters, Leona, Mrs. Harry Brinkema, Lucia, Laurine, Ida and Eunice, four brothers, Chester, Russell, William and Jay Dean, his aged grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Krueger of Hastings, Nebraska, and many other relatives.

 

Rev. Elmer M. Strelow officiated at the funeral services Monday. A brief service was held at the Krueger home before the rites at the church. Interment was made in the Amherst Cemetery.

 

 

 

BURDET KRUEGER

BURDET KRUEGER RITES OCT. 10

 

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 10, 1979 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Amherst for Burdet C. Krueger, 56, who passed away October 6, 1979 at Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver. Pastor Gerald Werth officiated at the service. Interment was in the Amherst Cemetery.

 

Burdet was born in Amherst September 9, 1923, to Otto and Augusta Krueger. He was baptized and confirmed into St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Amherst. He attended grade school in the Amherst area and went to High School in Holyoke, where he graduated in 1942. He married Joyce A. Rodeman and to this union four children were born, Niles, Cheryl Rundall, Lonnie and Tami. He was preceded in death by his mother.

 

Survivors include his wife, Joyce, two sons, Niles and Lonnie, two daughters, Cheryl and Tami,

daughter-in-laws Linda and Shirley, grandsons Christopher and Michael, his father, Otto, brother, LeRoy and wife Eunice, sister, Loretta and husband Gary Cranwell, nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
