CARRIE (FRIES) KROPP
Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, November 4, 1937
SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. KROPP
Wife Of Edwin Kropp Dies Of Pneumonia After Two Weeks Illness
Funeral services for Mrs. Edwin Kropp of Amherst took place at the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Amherst Monday afternoon following her death Saturday morning, October 30, at a Haxtun hospital from pneumonia.
Mrs. Kropp's illness was of brief duration, lasting only about two weeks, and it was thought at the end of the first week that she was improving, when complications set in. She was then taken to the Haxtun hospital.
Rev. W.W. Wilk, pastor of the Amherst Church, officiated at the funeral services. Interment was made in the Amherst Lutheran Cemetery, beside the body of her daughter, Mernia, who preceded her in death.
Born in Denmark Mrs. Kropp was 37 years of age. She was born Carrie Fries,* the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Fries,* May 21, 1900, at Vijle, Denmark. She with her parents,* immigrated to America when she was four years old, the family settling at Humboldt, Iowa, but moving later to Stickney, South Dakota, where she received most of her schooling. At the age of 12, she moved with her parents to Hartwell, Nebraska, where she finished school.
Later, the family returned to Humboldt, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. At the age of 21, she came to Colorado to visit her sister, Mrs. Fred Kropp, and it was here that she met Edwin Kropp to whom she was married on March 30, 1924. Except for a few years that she and her husband resided near Fleming; she spent the remainder of her life in the Amherst community. Two children were born to them, Mernia, who preceded the mother in death, and Mona Mae, now nine years old.
Mrs. Kropp was baptized in infancy, and on July 10, 1924, she was confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Amherst. She was regarded as a kind wife and a loving mother and was always found to be cheerful despite the fact that she had suffered much from sickness in the past nine years, during which time she had undergone three major operations.
Many Relatives Survive She leaves to mourn her departure her bereaved husband and daughter, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Christian Fries, two sisters, four brothers and a host of other relatives and friends.
The mother, Mrs. Fries, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Chris Sorensen and Mr. and Mrs. Niels Olsen, came from
Humboldt, Iowa, for the funeral, and other relatives who came from elsewhere for the services were Mr. and Mrs. George Naggatz of Sterling.
*NOTE: Carrie was not the daughter of Christian Fries [Friis] - he was her stepfather. We don't
know the name of her father - we were told he disappeared while serving in the Danish Navy. Her mother immigrated sometime about 1903, met Mr. Friis, and married in Iowa. Carrie and her
sister Ella immigrated 31 Oct 1904 with their grandparents, Jens Peter Sørensen & Karin Mathea Jensen.
