CLARENCE WILLIAM KROEGER

Clarence William Kroeger of Holyoke was born June 29, 1918 at Hebron, Nebraska to William and Louise Kroeger. He died May 8, 1996 in Haxtun at the age of 77. Kroeger was baptized in the Lutheran Church as an infant and was confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke in 1932. He spent his youth on a farm northeast of Holyoke and was educated in rural schools. Clarence entered the U.S. Army during World War II. He spent four years in the engineer corps while stationed in Canada, Alaska and England.
On August 15, 1967 he married Shirley (Chandler) Vernon and to this union a son, Jerry and a daughter, Lona were born. He also loved and raised five step children: sons Rodney and Lenny and daughters Becky, Peggy and Sheri. Clarence was employed by Ervin Byrkit for the last 30 years. Byrkit was not only his employer, but his best friend.
Preceding him in death were his beloved wife Shirley in February of 1996, his parents and sisters Alice Kroeger, Viola Holtzman and Agnus Oeltjenbruns.
Survivors include sons Rodney Vernon and wife Sharon of Ovid, Leonard Vernon and wife Lynn of Holyoke and Jerry Kroeger and wife Bobbie of Holyoke; daughters Becky Peterson and husband Randy of North Platte, Nebraska, Peggy Brown and husband Jim of Holyoke, Sheri Bornhoft and husband Tommy of Fleming and Lona Salyards and husband Dave of Sedgwick; brothers Lawrence Kroeger of Haxtun and Harry Kroeger and wife Hazel of Fairbury, Nebraska; sisters Edna Fraser of Mishawaka, Indiana, Velma Hagemann and husband Glen of Hamilton, Montana, Phyllis Therkelsen and husband Turk of Denver and Fay Anderson and husband Bob of Ormond Beach, Florida, and 10 grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, May 13, 1996 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke with Rev. Gary Rahe officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
SHIRLEY ANN (CHANDLER) KROEGER

Shirley Ann Kroeger of Holyoke was born February 10, 1932 in Haxtun to Lee and Anna Chandler. She died February 8, 1996 at the Haxtun Hospital at the age of 63.
Shirley grew up in the Pleasant Valley Community. She attended and graduated from Holyoke High School. She married Clarence Kroeger on August 15, 1967 and to this union were born a son Jerry and daughter Lona. She had five other children from a previous marriage. Preceding her in death were her parents and brothers Dale, Max and Ward Chandler.
Survivors include husband Clarence Kroeger of Holyoke; children Rodney Vernon and wife Sharon of Ovid, Lenny Vernon and wife Lynn of Holyoke, Becky Peterson and husband Randy of North Platte, Nebraska, Peggy Brown and husband Jim of Holyoke, Sheri Bornhoft and husband Tommy of Fleming, Jerry Kroeger of Holyoke and Lona Salyards and husband Dave of Sedgwick; brothers Nyle Chandler and wife Francis of Concord, California and Calvin Chandler and wife Myrt of Holyoke; sister Dola Wood and husband Corwin of Gulfport, Mississippi; and grandchildren Lonny and Jennifer Vernon, Randy, Lena and Andrew Peterson, Candie and Dalton Salyards, Jerica Kroeger and Kylee and Katlin Bornhoft.
Services were held Monday, February 12 at Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke with Rev. Gary Rahe officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
