SERVICES HELD FOR PIONEER RESIDENT

John Henry Hargreaves, the son of Henry C. and Catharine Hargreaves, was born April 16, 1884 in Liverpool, England and departed this life November 2, 1948 in Holyoke, Colorado at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 16 days.

He came to Phillips County with his parents when he was three years old and settled with them on a homestead where he has lived until recently. At the time of this settling, the nearest town was Julesburg where they had to go for food, water and building supplies.

At an early age he became affiliated with the Methodist church and remained active in the church the rest of his life. He was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

Mr. Hargreaves was united in marriage to Miss Arpy Bone on September 23, 1914 and to this union were born three sons. Thru out his life time he witnessed the development of Holyoke from one building to its present status. During his many years of residency in Phillips County he contributed greatly to the welfare of his community, helping to bear the burdens of others as he bore his own. To a friend in need, he was a friend indeed.

He spent his entire life’s activity engaged in farming and cattle raising, and spared no effort in becoming the success that he was.

Mr. Hargreaves was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Thomas and George and by a half brother, James Lynch. Left to mourn his passing are his loving and devoted wife, three sons, Raymond of Holyoke, Charles and Harold of Denver, one sister, Mrs. Anna Johnson of Greeley, one brother, Frank of Mitchell, Nebraska and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at the First Methodist church in Holyoke with Rev. Oliver W. Brock officiating. Interment was in the Holyoke cemetery. Pall bearers were Clarence Johnston, Glen Heimer, Floyd Waln, Edwin Neuenschwander, Albert Pollock and Philip

White.

All funeral arrangements were made by the Lewis Funeral Home of Holyoke.
