Calkins Rites Held Thursday

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Calkins, a resident of Holyoke for many years, were conducted last Thursday afternoon at the Lewis Funeral Home, with Rev. J. Wilson Branstetter of the Methodist church officiating. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park.

 

Mrs. Calkins, who was 88 years old, passed away Tuesday of last week at the Phillips County Hospital where she had been a patient 12 days. She is believed to have suffered a stroke at her home and broke an arm in a fall before being hospitalized.

 

As Jennie Gay Dillabaugh, daughter of Omar Rose and Sarah Jane Dillabaugh. Mrs. Calkins was born September 30, 1865, in Monmouth, Illinois. She was reared in that community and on September 29, 1887, she was united in

marriage to Thomas R. Calkins at Corning, Iowa.

 

To this union four children were born, all of whom survive. There are two sons, Ray and Elson Calkins; and two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Patrick and Ethel, Mrs. Bruce Waln.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Calkins moved to Holyoke in 1910 and this remained their home. Mr. Calkins died in 1917. Mrs. Calkins was united with the Methodist church early in life and remained a member until her death.

 

Survivors, besides those already mentioned, include 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a number of other relatives.
