CASSIE (CROOK) HARTE

Body Brought To Holyoke Thursday; Burial at Pleasant Valley

 

Mrs. Cassie Harte, mother of Cliff Harte of Holyoke, died at Alma, Nebraska, Wednesday, November 27. She was buried in the Pleasant Valley cemetery beside the body of her husband Friday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted in the Pleasant Valley school house by Rev. E.A. Walden. The funeral arrangements were in charge of Colver Brothers.

 

Mrs. Harte was born at Buchanan, Missouri, November 24, 1855. In 1870 she was married to Truman Harte. Eight children were born to this union, all of which are still living. On April 24, 1924* Mr. Harte died. Two years ago Mrs. Harte moved to Alma, Nebraska, where she made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Nellie Buhrman until her death. From 1920 until early in 1928 Mrs. Harte made her home in this community. The body was returned to Holyoke Thursday, and was accompanied by Mrs. Nellie Buhrman, Otis and Roland Harte.

 

Of the eight children one lives near Holyoke, Cliff Harte, three live at Alma, Nebraska, Otis, Roland and Mrs. Buhrman, one lives at Venango, Mrs. Rodney Davis, besides Mrs. Charles Hale of Savannah, Missouri, Mrs. Fred Herbaugh of Centralia, Washington, and Charles Harte of Phoenix, Arizona. Mrs. Harte was just past 73 years of age when death overtook her. Death resulted from an anemic-dropiscal condition. She had been a member of the Methodist church all her life.

CLIFTON E. HARTE

 

 

Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, November 9, 1967

 

Clifton Everett Harte, a resident of this community since 1918, passed away at the Sterling Heights Nursing Home, Sterling, Colorado, last Thursday afternoon, November 2, 1967. Mr. Harte, the oldest of eight children of Elisha Truman Harte and Cassie (nee) Crook, was born October 7, 1876, at Rockport, Missouri. At an early age he moved with his parents to the Crab Orchard community in Johnson County, Nebraska.

 

On February 9, 1902, he was united in marriage to Idella E. Hotaling at Crab Orchard, Nebraska. He soon moved with his bride to a farm northeast of Neligh, in Antelope County, Nebraska. There on June 1, 1903, a son, Everett Clifton Harte, was born to this union. In March of 1908, Mr. Harte and his family moved by emigrant train to a farm 11 miles southwest of Wauneta, Nebraska, in Dundy County. This farm was three miles east of the old Ough post office and store. While living here, the Harte family attended the Mt. Zion Methodist church. In March of 1918, "Cliff," as his friends called him, moved with his family to a ranch in the sand hills in the extreme southeast corner of Phillips County. There he was engaged in farming and ranching until March of 1944 when he sold the ranch. He and his wife moved to Holyoke where they made their home at the old Charles Peters residence at 342 Emerson Street.

 

Mr. Harte was preceded in death by his wife, Idella E. Harte; his parents, Truman and Cassie Harte; two brothers, Charley Harte and Roland Harte; and two sisters, Mrs. Mamie Herbaugh and Mrs. Lulu Hale.

 

He is survived by his son, Everett C. Harte, and daughter-n-law, Helen M. Harte; a brother, Otis Harte of Pasadena, California; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Buhrman of Cozad, Nebraska and Mrs. Gladys Davis of Honolulu, Hawaii; besides a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  During a lifetime of more than 91 years, Mr. Harte witnessed many changes and improvements in farming, ranching, transportation and communications. Funeral services were conducted at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating minister was the Rev. Gerald J. Dingman of the First Methodist church of Holyoke, of which Mr. Harte was a member. Interment was at the Pleasant Valley cemetery beside his wife, Idella Harte, and parents, Trueman and Cassie Harte. The Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

 

 

GLENDINE HARTE (INFANT)

 

 

Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, CO, 11 Mar 1926

 

The nine months old babe of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Harte died early Sunday morning, unable to overcome an attack of influenza. Glendine, the infant daughter had been named, and she formed a bright spot in the lives of her parents until death came.

 

The funeral was held at Pleasant Valley, with Rev. Webb of Lamar preaching the funeral sermon. The little body was buried in the State Line cemetery. (Pleasant Valley)

 

The sympathy of many of Mr. and Mrs. Harte's friends and neighbors go out to them in their bereavement.

 

 

 

 

HELEN M.(GUE) HARTE

 

 

Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, July 5, 1979

 

 

Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, June 28, 1979, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Holyoke, Colorado, for Helen M. Harte, 80, who passed away Monday, June 25, at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. She had been in failing health for many years.

 

Celebrant was Rev. John J. Murphy. Interment was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

 

Helen Marguerite Harte was born near Elk Creek, Nebraska on September 6, 1898, to Anna and Carrie Gue. She was their only child. She spent her early life in Nebraska attending school and teaching.

 

Helen was married to Everett C. Harte on March 14, 1931, at Goodland, Kansas. There were no children. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church Altar and Rosary Society, also, the Auxiliary to Post 6482 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Auxiliary to American Legion Post 90.

 

Helen is survived by her husband, Everett, of Holyoke, to whom she was married for over 48 years, and many relatives and friends. She loved everyone regardless of race, color or religious belief, and was never known to speak an unkind word about anyone. She was a very kind and gentle person.
