Funeral services for Gus Fisbeck, age 78, of Holyoke, were held Wednesday morning,September 8 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

 

Fisbeck died in Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke Saturday evening, September 4 from a gunshot would that was apparently self-inflicted, said Police Chief Forest Watson. He had been taken to the hospital from his home shortly after the incident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. that afternoon.

Funeral services for Gus A. Fisbeck were held Wednesday, September 8, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Pastor Gary Rahe officiated.

 

Gustav Albert Fisbeck, son of Herman and Bertha Hintzman Fisbeck was born April 6, 1904 on a farm near Helvey, Nebraska. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

 

In 1923 he moved to Colorado. For nine years he engaged in farming west of Holyoke.

 

In 1932 he was united in marriage to Iris Welton of Holyoke. They moved to Powell, Nebraska following the marriage and farmed for 12 years. In 1944 they returned to Holyoke. From then until his retirement in 1969 Gus was employed by the City.

 

Gus was an avid fisherman and gardener.

 

Gus remained a member of the Lutheran Church throughout his life and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Holyoke at the time of his death.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Shirley; four sisters; and three brothers.

 

He is survived by his wife, Iris of Holyoke; three daughters, Kathleen Matthews of Nebraska City, Nebraska, Elaine Papen of Haysville, Kansas and Betty Bahler of Lamar, Nebraska; three sons, Larry of Bridgeport, Nebraska, Allen of Gothenburg, Nebraska and Darrell of Red Cloud, Nebraska; three brothers, William of Holyoke, Otto of Fairbury, Nebraska and Lester of Corvallis, Oregon; sixteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park with Thompson Mortuary of Holyoke in charge of arrangements.
