H.P. GROVES PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY, JULY 1*

H.P. Groves, a resident of this community for more than thirty years, passed away at his home in Haxtun Wednesday evening, July 3. Mr. Groves had enjoyed good health until a few months ago, and was stricken with a serious illness last month that caused his death.

Born at Durham, Iowa, Mr. Groves came to Colorado in 1902, and homesteaded ten miles north of Haxtun. He retired from the farm a number of years ago, and moved to town. Following the death of his brother, Wilbur, he made a home for his niece**, Blanche Groves and Maxine Law.

The obituary read at the funeral is as follows:

Again are we reminded of the frailty of man in his earthly habitation and of the certainty of death. The summons comes, and we answer the call, even tho the charge committed to us seems unfinished. We now behold the messenger of death claiming as its toll one whose life had not reached the allotted span, but He who doeth all things well has seen fit to call him from the activities of life and we bow to the inevitable

Herman Peter Groves was born at Durham, Iowa, May 1, 1876, and died at Haxtun, Colorado, July 3, 1935, at the age of 59 years, 2 months and two days. In early life he was converted and united with the Baptist church in the communion of which he remained until called to the Church Triumphant.

Mr. Groves was a member of the*** and retiring disposition, always cheerful even under the hand of affliction and sorrow. The sunny side of life was reflected to those about him in the home or in ordinary walks of life. A kind brother, a thoughtful friend and neighbor,  one who will be greatly missed by the large circle of relatives and acquaintances who were privileged to know him.  Mr. Groves was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge, holding his membership in the lodge of Knoxville, Iowa.

He leaves to mourn his departure, six brothers: Leander I., of Clovis, New Mexico; Samuel B. of Des Moines, Iowa; Frank M. of Clovis, New Mexico; his twin brother, Hiram, of Des Moines, Iowa; Wallace

K. of Kansas City, Missouri; Quint V. of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Musetta E. Redding, Fort Lupton, Colorado and Iva A. Groves Sell, of Grand Junction, Colorado. Also many nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends and acquaintances.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church in Haxtun Friday morning at ten o’clock, conducted by the Rev. Alexander Bryans. Interment was in the Haxtun cemetery, with arrangements by the Radford Funeral Home. Committal services at the grave were conducted by members of the I.O.O.F. lodge.
