Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church for George Washington Hargreaves, Rev. I.O. Tweedy of Paoli officiating.

 

Two musical numbers were rendered by a vocal quartette composed of Mr. C.R. Smythe, Mrs. Charles Brown, G.L. Bereman, and Dr. P.S. Struble and a vocal solo was given by Mrs. Smythe. Miss Betty Gleason accompanied.

 

George Washington Hargreaves, the son of Henry C. and Catharine Hargreaves, was born near Holyoke, Colorado January 11, 1889 and departed this life December 23, 1943 at his farm home south of Holyoke.

 

He has lived all his life in Phillips County and has lived in the same home all of that time, except for a few months spent in California for his health.

 

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Holyoke, having affiliated with that organization when but 12 years of age.

 

Mr. Hargreaves was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

 

He was united in marriage to Agnes C. Donnely January 1, 1924 and to this union were born five children, all of them at home.

 

His mother and father and half brother, James Lynch, preceded him in death.

 

Left to feel the loss of so untimely a passing, besides his loving and devoted wife, are his five sons: Wayne, Robert, Wilbur, Willis, and James; one step-son, Master Sergeant Laverne Donnely in his country’s service; as well as three brothers and one sister: John and Thomas of Holyoke, Frank of Mitchell, Nebraska, and Mrs. Anna Johnson of Greeley. Also several nephews and nieces as well as other relatives and an innumerable host of friends.

 

May it be said by one who knew him well, and who served him in times of illness that Mr. Hargreaves was an example of stable American manhood; one who believed in kindness as an every day contribution to life, and who zealously stood by his convictions. He loved his family dearly, his fellow men sincerely and made his presence enough to bring smiles and warmth to any situation. He had a smile and a good word for everybody he met.

His life is its own testimony.
