LAST RITES HELD FOR GEORGE J. BRUNKEN
George Jansen Brunken, son of James and Reka Brunken, was born in Germany, July 4, 1867, and passed away at Holyoke July 24, 1951, at the age of 84 years and 20 days.
He came to America with his mother and youngest brother in October, 1893, settling in Glenville, Nebraska. He was married to Verna Johanna Henricke* August 5, 1897, at Hastings, Nebraska.
This union was blessed with four sons and seven daughters. The family moved to Colorado in 1916, making their home in the Holyoke and Amherst communities.
His wife passed away May 2, 1947. Also preceding him in death were two sons, John in infancy, George in 1939, and one daughter, Mrs. Sophia Tomberlin in 1935.
He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and was a member of that church at the time of his death. He suffered a stroke in 1936, from which he never fully recovered, but was in fair health until the past year. He leaves to mourn his
death, two sons, John of Haxtun, and Conrad of Holyoke; six daughters, Mrs. Clarence Nierman, Mrs. D.E. Thomas, Verna Grier and Mrs. Herb Fairall, all of Denver, Mrs. F.W. Nierman of Holyoke and Mrs. Art Rodeman of Grand View,
Washington. Also 21 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Two brothers, Jake and John, of Hastings, Nebraska, also survive.
Funeral services were held at the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church with Rev. R. Einspahr officiating. Pallbearers were Herbert Welper, Walter Leben, Fred Kropp, Melvin Tumbleson, Arthur Schmidt and E. E. Schmidt.
Arrangements were by the Lewis Funeral Home and interment was in the Holyoke Memorial Park.
