GEORGE HEGINBOTHAM RITES HELD HERE; 79-YEAR RESIDENT

 

George B. Heginbotham, 83, well known retired businessman who had resided in Holyoke since early childhood, passed away Thursday evening, November 23, Thanksgiving Day, at Melissa Memorial Hospital here.

 

Mr. Heginbotham had been in failing health for three months and was twice hospitalized at the Presbyterian Hospital in Denver and at the local hospital.

 

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 27, at the Holyoke Methodist church, with Rev. Gerald Dingman officiating. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park. The Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

A son of John B. and Melissa E. Heginbotham, George B. Heginbotham was born October 26, 1884, in Brooklyn, Iowa. He moved to Holyoke with his parents in 1888 and received his early education in the Holyoke schools. Later he attended the military academy in Kearney, Nebraska.

 

Mr. Heginbotham, along with is father and brother, W.E. Heginbotham, was engaged in banking here for a number of years. He entered the automobile business with his brother-in-law, George F. Garland, in 1918, continuing in that for some time, and he also had farming interests in this community.

 

On January 1, 1911, Mr. Heginbotham was united in marriage to Blanche Garland of Holyoke. To this union was born one son, Max, who preceded his father in death in 1957. Mrs. Heginbotham passed away in 1954.

 

Mr. Heginbotham became a member of the Holyoke Methodist church on November 11, 1900. Following his marriage, he attended the Baptist church with his wife, who was a member of that church. He was also a member of the Masonic lodge during his active years.

 

Survivors include one brother, W.E. Heginbotham, Holyoke; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Paul, Denver; two grandchildren, John Heginbotham, Newcastle, Wyoming and Mrs. Phil Lockwood; two great grandchildren; one niece, Mrs. Leah TeBockhurst, Denver, and many friends.
