OSCAR MICHAEL
Journal-Advocate June 12, 2011
Oscar Michael, 88, passed away June 12, 2011, in Windsor. Visitation was Thursday, June 16, at Gerk Funeral Home, Haxtun. Funeral Services for Oscar were held today, June 17, at the Fairfield Covenant Church in Fairfield with Pastor Dean Patterson officiating. Interment services followed at the Fairfield Cemetery.
Frank Oscar Michael was born to George and Maude Bjorklun Michael on Jan. 27, 1923, in a two-room house east of the Fairfield church. When he was still an infant, his parents moved to the farm owned by his grandfather, August Bjorklun, on the Phillips/Sedgwick county line. Oscar attended the Fairfield school through the 10th grade and then began farming with his father. His father passed away two years later so Oscar kept the farm going with the help of his uncle, Frank Bjorklun, and his two younger brothers, Glenn and Leonard.
Oscar loved to ride and work with horses and was rarely happier than when he was in the saddle.
On Oct. 26, 1946, Oscar married Norma Irene Lundberg in the Fairfield Church following the Sunday services. They made their home in the same house Oscar was raised in until 1965 when they moved to the home east of Haxtun. Oscar continued to travel to Fairfield daily to tend to the farm. Oscar and Norma continued to be members of the Fairfield Covenant Church their entire lives. Over the years, family, the church, friends and neighbors were very important to Oscar. He was always ready to lend a hand. Oscar was very supportive of any activities that his children or grandchildren were involved in. In later years, Oscar and Norma enjoyed traveling to watch Dean play college football and to attend grandkids` games and activities.
Oscar is survived by his daughter, Ardis Fowler and husband Dwight; sons, George, Evan and wife Pat, and Dean; brothers, Glen, Leonard and wife Donna; step-sister, Inez; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Althea Cummings; brother-in-law, Melvin Lundberg and wife Lark; and several nieces and nephews.
Oscar was preceded in death by his wife, Norma in 2010.
