Fern Falk, 88, died on October 30, 2002 in Sun City, Arizona. She was born in 1914, the daughter of Arthur and Esther (Holm) Falk, in Fairfield. She attended school there until moving into Posegate Hall in Holyoke. She then attended Phillips County High School and graduated as Valedictorian in 1931. She continued her education at Colorado State Teachers College, Greeley. Fern taught at Holyoke and Alamosa before moving to Hammond, Indiana in 1941. She taught at Harding and Clark schools, then became Principal of Jefferson Elementary School in 1955 when the school opened.

 

She retired in 1976 and moved to Sun City, Arizona. She was a member of the teaching honor society, Delta Kappa Tau.

 

Survivors include two nephews, Dr. John and wife Sharyn Orcutt, San Diego, California and Dr. James and wife Barbara Orcutt, Seattle, Washington; brother-in-law John P. Orcutt, Delta; step-brothers Willard Hofmeister, Texas, and Melvin Hofmeister, Haxtun; and step-sister, Nelda and husband Dale O'Neal, Holyoke. Cousins, Wayne and wife Patricia Falk, Haxtun, Edna Glee and husband Doyle Orcutt, Haxtun, Doris and husband Jim Koester, Sterling, Laura Maller, Oakland, Nebraska, Donna and husband Bob Herron, Las Cruces, New Mexico, Marge and husband Stanley Stewart, Lexington, Nebraska, Norma and Byron Gillett, Aurora; lifetime classmate and friend Winona (Koberstein) Rouze; many great-nephews, nieces and friends also survive her.

 

Memorial services were held Saturday May 3, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Tennant-Thompson Funeral Home, Holyoke. Interment followed in the Holyoke Memorial Park.
