SERVICES ARE HELD FOR AGED HAXTUN RESIDENT
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for F.O. Ahnstedt who passed away Thursday, July 2, at his home in Haxtun. Although past 80 years of age, Mr. Ahnstedt enjoyed good health until just a week before his death.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ahnstedt and was born and baptized in Stockaryde, Sweden, February 11, 1857, being 85 years, 4 months and 21 days old at the time of his passing. He was a member of a large family.
His mother died when he was but a child and all but one sister have preceded him in death. As a young man, Mr. Ahnstedt came to America in 1877 and settled in New Windsor, Illinois. On March 25, 1886 he was married to Miss Ida Parsons. To this union seven children were born two of whom preceded him in death. The family moved to a farm near Holdrege, Nebraska in 1891.
Mr. Ahnstedt was one of the oldest pioneers of this community, having homesteaded several claims, one of which was a timber claim. He settled about 1903 in the Fairfield community, where he made his home until he retired, moving to Haxtun in December 1928. He united with the Swedish Lutheran Church of Haxtun January 10, 1929. Mrs. Ahnstedt passed away March 4, 1929.
He is survived by four sons, Arthur, Alvin, Franz and Harry, all of Haxtun and one daughter, Mrs. Hilma Culp, of Loveland, Colorado, Seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. Ida Peterson of New Windsor, Illinois.
He will be remembered by those who knew him as a quiet, kindly man, who could combine honesty with business and patience with perseverance. Burial was made in the Haxtun cemetery.
Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Frank Anderson, Paul Erickson and Mrs. Herbert Erickson of Shenandoah, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Parson of Essex, Iowa, Pvt. Ray Culp of Fort Bliss, Texas, and Pvt. Lawrence Ahnstedt, who is near Boston.
