AGED AMHERST MAN IS CALLED BY DEATH
Edward Gamewell Had Been Resident Of County Since 1907; Buried At Holyoke
After a lingering illness of about one year from heart trouble, Edward D. Gamewell passed away in the early hours of Friday morning, May 5, at the home of his son, Sam Gamewell, near Amherst. He had reached the age of almost 75 years.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon from the Colver Funeral Home, Rev. T.R. Layton of the Baptist Church of Holyoke officiating. His body was laid to rest in the new addition of the Holyoke Cemetery.
Mr. Gamewell was born September 9, 1865,* near Springfield, Missouri, and grew to manhood in Callaway County, Missouri, in the vicinity of Jefferson City. While a young man, he and his brother-in-law, George Gholson, went to Texas, where they contracted to fence the right of way of the Texas Pacific railway. After finishing this contract he again came north and located in Holt County, Missouri, where he met and married Miss Elizabeth Freeman on September 4, 1892. The early part of their married life was spent on a farm near Bigelow, Missouri.
In 1906 he left there with his family and came to Colorado, and on March 13, 1907, they settled on their homestead five miles southeast of Amherst, where he continued to live until a few months before his death, when, because of his illness, it was necessary for him to be taken to his son's home.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Gamewell, a son, Sam, of Amherst, two daughters, Mrs. Herman Senstock of Eugene, Oregon, and Mrs. Ralph Banks of Venango, Nebraska, and one sister, Mrs. George Gholson, of Fort Worth, Texas. All of the relatives attended the funeral with the exception of his sister and one daughter, Mrs. Herman Senstock, of Oregon, who was here to visit him several weeks ago. Although he was failing fast in health in the last six months, he was able almost every day to be up and around. He also leaves to mourn six grandchildren and many friends and neighbors.
