Edwin Keith Alexander passed away Thursday, March 12, 1992 at the Haxtun Hospital at the age of 77.
He was born at Glenwood, Iowa on January 7, 1915 the son of Alfred C. and Laura Luella Doan Alexander .
Edwin moved with his parents to Colorado in 1918 to a farm south of Sedgwick. Later he moved to a farm north of Haxtun in the Fairfield district. He attended school at District 13 and also at Fairfield. Mr. Alexander worked on a farm as a farm and ranch hand, and later married Hazel Blake on June 7, 1935 at Chappell, Nebraska.
They lived on the Cottonwood Ranch where he was working at the time. In 1938, they moved to Indian Hills where he worked for Gates Rubber Co. during World War II. Then he worked with the U.S. Civil Service as a carpenter and General Service for 19 years before retiring in 1972 on disability. In 1973, they moved back to Haxtun. Hazel passed away February 7, 1979.
He later married Velma Finningsmier on September 14, 1980. Edwin enjoyed music all of his life. In his earlier years, he had his own dance band and later played with a band at senior citizen events. He was a member of the Church of The Brethren, and active member of the Senior Citizens for many years, and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Edwin is survived by his wife Velma Alexander of Haxtun; his children Laurene Richa and husband, Leo of Haxtun, Kenneth Alexander and wife, Betty of Golden, Lavonne Brower of Lakewood, Peggy Nielsen and husband, Gary of Sterling and Donna Kerstiens and husband, Dave of Sterling; brother Burl Alexander of Indian Hills; eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and six step children.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Alexander; his parents; three sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 16 at the Church of The Brethren in Haxtun with Rev. Roy Pfaltzgraff officiating. Burial followed in the Haxtun Cemetery with Thompson Mortuary handling arrangements.
