Funeral services were held from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Amherst, Thursday, March 9, 1972, for Carroll A. Claymon, 50, who passed away Tuesday, March 7, at Melissa Memorial Hospital.
Rev. Theo Schauland officiated at the morning prayer service and the church services. Interment was in Holyoke Memorial Park with the military rites conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6482. Thompson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Carroll Arnold Claymon, son of George and Clella Rinesmith Claymon, was born at Platte Center, Nebraska, on October 26, 1921. When he was nine years old the family moved to a farm at Amherst. He attended school at Amherst and graduated from Phillips County High School in 1939.
He served with the 409th Anti-Aircraft Artillery battery in Europe from 1942 until 1945. He received three battle stars and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
Following the war he engaged in farming. In 1959 he was appointed postmaster for the Amherst post office.
Carroll was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on May 22, 1964. For the past three years he had served as a counselor for the young people’s league at St. Paul’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Russel and Dale. He is survived by a brother, Marvin, Lakewood; a sister, Mrs. Leonard Roberts, Holyoke; a sister-in-law, Leila Claymon, Haxtun; six nieces and nephews; one great niece, one great nephew and many other relatives and friends.
Out of town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Roll, Marion Claymon and son, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Claymon, Ferne and Janet Levin, Denver; Leila Claymon and family, and Vernon Dix, Haxtun; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Mildenberger, Janice Church and Rose Critchlow, Sterling; Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Bonner, Columbus, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Claymon, Shailene Claymon and Glenda Mills, North Platte, Nebraska.
Mr. and Mrs. Delvin Claymon, Brule, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. John “Roberts, Crook; John Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Cumming and Albert Stretsky, Julesburg; Mrs. Leon Meyers and Amelia Gill, Big Springs.
