C.H. Briggs, a resident of the Holyoke and Lamar area most of his life, passed away last Thursday at Colorado General Hospital in Denver. Mr. Briggs had been in declining health for the past year. He entered the Denver hospital one week before his death. He was 64 years of age.  The funeral service was conducted Saturday afternoon at the Holyoke Methodist church, with Rev. Donald A. Shaw, pastor of the Lamar, Nebraska E.U.B. church, officiating. Interment was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements

 

Charles Herbert Briggs, a son of Charles and Belle Butterfield Briggs, was born January 17, 1893, on a homestead near Holyoke.  As a small child he moved with his family to Grand Island, Nebraska and while living there he was baptized. After the death of his father in 1904 the family moved back to Colorado where his mother took up a homestead southeast of Holyoke and resided there until 1922.

 

On April 19, 1919, Mr. Briggs was united in marriage to Emma North at Holyoke, and to this union five children were born. They made their home southeast of Holyoke until moving to Lamar, Nebraska in 1922. Mr. Briggs and his brothers operated a machine shop at Lamar for a number of years. The family moved to Holyoke three years ago.

 

Surviving Mr. Briggs are his wife; four children, Charles, Grant, Nebraska, Sherwin, Muncie, Kansas, Mrs. Norma Neff, Lakewood, Colorado, and Miss Shirley Briggs, Brush, Colorado; a sister, Mrs. Faith Shambaugh, Tucson, Arizona; a brother, Lawrence Briggs, Holyoke, and seven grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by one son, Richard, who died in infancy; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Martin, and a brother, Paul.
