CARL RAYMOND BAUER

 

 

Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, April 5, 2007

 

Carl Raymond Bauer, age 87, of Kersey died March 28, 2007 in Greeley.  Carl was born December 23, 1919 to William and Freida (Wostenberg) Bauer in Venango, Nebraska. He was born and raised on the Colorado/Nebraska state line southeast of Amherst. He was one of 13 children. At age 12 he went to work to help support his family.

 

He joined the Navy during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Presidential Unit Citation.  He met Pauline Dykman of Amherst and they were married on June 16, 1943 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst. They settled in Amherst and spent their life farming in the community. Carl is best known for his contribution to little league baseball in Amherst as he spent numerous years coaching and taking care of the ball field. He loved watching his children participate in school and sporting activities. In later life, he enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and wife Pauline.

 

Survivors include: sons, Mike and wife Glenda of Cincinnati, Ohio, Doug and wife MaryJane of Ocean View, Delaware, Barry and wife Linda of Overland Park, Kansas; daughter Candi Bauer of Kersey; five grandchildren, Tod Bauer, Ryan Bauer, Sarah Reinick, Thad Bauer and Ross Bauer; five great grandchildren, Sidney, Jake, Conner, Amanda and Nicole Bauer; two sisters Elma Smith of Holyoke and Dorothy Pulsipher of Denver.

 

Funeral services were held April 2, 2007 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Amherst with Pastor Alan Borcher officiating. Interment followed at Amherst Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Amherst. Gerk Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
