ARPY HARGREAVES, RESIDENT OF AREA MANY YEARS, DIES
Mrs. Arpy Hargreaves, who spent most of her life in the Holyoke community, passed away Thursday, May 11, at Melissa Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient since May 8. She was 79 years of age.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13, at the Holyoke Methodist church, with Rev. Gerald Dingman officiating. The Lewis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was at Holyoke Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hargreaves had resided at Sheridan Manor Nursing Home most of the time since March 1964. She was hospitalized from October until December in 1966, then returned to the nursing home.
One of seven children of Charles and Alice Bone, Arpy Bone was born December 6, 1887, in Corydon, Iowa. The family moved to Phillips County when she was a small child and she attended school in the Amherst community. As a young woman, she taught school for a short time.
On September 23, 1914, she was united in marriage to John Henry Hargreaves, a native of Liverpool, England. To this union three sons were born, all of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves engaged in farming and cattle raising for many years. Mr. Hargreaves passed away on November 2, 1948.
Mrs. Hargreaves was a faithful member of the Methodist church and was also active in Royal Neighbors of America, Navy Mothers club and Golden Age club as long as her health permitted.
Surviving are three sons, Charles Hargreaves, M.D., Lovington, New Mexico, Raymond Hargreaves, Holyoke, and Harold Hargreaves, D.D.S., Denver; three brothers, Dorsey Bone, Denver, Emmett Bone, Lusk, Wyoming, and Fred Bone, Grand Junction; one sister, Mrs. Willard Butterfield, Denver; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Mrs. Hargreaves in death besides her husband were her parents, one brother and one sister.
