Albert Henry "Butch" Beal of Holyoke was born August 26, 1906 in Adams County, Nebraska to Andrew and Mary Hagemann Beal. He died January 1, 1997 in Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke.

As a young child, Butch participated in all aspects of the family's central Nebraska farm life in the Juniata and Holstein areas near Hastings. When he was 11, his family moved to a farm nine and one-half miles north of Holyoke. By this time the family consisted of 10 children and one more girl was born before the family purchased a farm 10 miles northwest of Holyoke.

Butch farmed with his father until age 21. Then he worked at picking corn, raising livestock, trucking and farming rented ground. Gradually he added more land to his operation, concentrating his efforts on raising wheat.

In 1931 Butch married Frances Sprague of Holyoke. Some years later they purchased a farm five miles north of town. Their first daughter, Diane, was born in 1943. In the late 40s they began designing and building a new home which they moved into in 1950. In 1952, their second daughter, Sonia, was born.

Butch served on the local school board for a number of years. He also belonged to various organizations including the Elks Club, Holyoke Gun Club and National Farmers Organization.

In addition to wheat farming, which he continued until his retirement in 1976, Butch enjoyed innovative designing and manufacturing of farm machinery.

Butch's first wife died in 1968.

In 1971 he was married to Vera Brethouwer Garland of Holyoke and for many years they spent their winters in the San Diego, California area.

As an infant Butch was baptized in the Wanda Lutheran Church. He was a lifelong believer in the Christian faith, and in September of 1990 he was baptized and became a member of the First Christian Church.

Preceding him in death were his wife Frances, parents Andrew and Mary; brothers Arthur, Elmer, LaVern, Oscar and Lester and sisters Esther Finke, Evelyn Rutt, Helen Condrey and Viola Chandler.
