ARLO MARSHALL FERGUSON

 

Arlo Marshall Ferguson of Haxtun was born May 28, 1910 on a farm near Holyoke to Robert and Bertha Utesler Ferguson. He passed away Sunday, January 12, 1997 in Haxtun at the age of 86.

 

Ferguson grew up on the family farm which had been homesteaded by his parents. He attended school in rural Holyoke and Fairfield. He graduated from Phillips County High School in 1927. Arlo completed three years of college, two in Fort Collins and one in Chicago, Illinois. Following his years in college, he returned to rural Holyoke where he farmed and ranched until his retirement.  Arlo moved to the Haxtun hospital and nursing home for medical attention in October of 1994.

 

On May 20, 1939 he was united in marriage to Hilda Viola Knode at the Methodist Church in Julesburg. To this union, which lasted 57 years, was born one son, Leon Dale.

 

Arlo attended Fairfield Covenant Church. He had a lifelong interest in cattle and was actively involved in the 4-H organization. He was a member for 20 years, and served as a 4-H boys club leader for many years. Preceding him in death were his parents and son Leon.

 

Survivors include his wife Hilda Ferguson of Haxtun; daughter-in-law Marian Ferguson of Holyoke; grandsons LeMoine Ferguson of Haxtun and Nicholas Ferguson of Holyoke; and nephew Lennie Ahnstedt of Idaho.

 

A memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday, January 15, 1997 at Fairfield Covenant Church with Rev. Dale Bishop officiating.
