HELEN (ROUZE) LLOYD

Helen (Rouze) Lloyd was born August 25, 1906 on the farm home of her parents near Knoxville, IA. She was the second of two children born to Samuel and Mary (Hutcheson) Rouze. As a young girl, the family moved to Imperial, NE and in 1914, they homesteaded their farm in southeast Phillips County. Helen attended school in the Amity school district where she achieved a high school education.

 

On May 1, 1928, she married Loren Lloyd at Salina, KS. Two children, Ray and Dorothy, were born to this union. The first five years of their married life, they lived on the Lloyd farm near Hamilton, KS and in 1933, they returned back to Phillips County where she spent the rest of her life.

 

Helen's cheerful disposition made her a good friend to many of her neighbors. She was a devoted wife and mother and enjoyed her grandchildren very much. She knew the meaning of hard work in her life. She helped with all phases of work on the ranch and helped take care of her mother in her later years. Helen enjoyed her garden and her flowers were a source of pride to her and an enjoyment to those who came to visit. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

 

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Glen Rouze. Her husband Loren,  who died in 1975; and a son-in-law, Doug Hubbard, who died in 1985.

 

Helen is survived by her son, Ray Lloyd of North Platte, NE; her daughter, Dorothy Hubbard of rural Holyoke; two grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Graveside services were held August 28 at the Pleasant Valley cemetery.*

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 22, 1975 from the funeral home at Grant, Nebraska for Loren John Lloyd, 71, who passed away at his home on Tuesday, May 20. Interment was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

 

Loren John Lloyd, second son of Charles and Sarah Lloyd, was born October 7, 1904 on the family farm near Hamilton, Kansas where he attended the schools and churches. May 1, 1928 he was married to Helen Rouze at Salina, Kansas. The first five years of their married life was spent at the place of his birth and where a son, Ray, was born. The family moved to Phillips County in 1933 and here a daughter, Dorothy, completed the family circle.

 

Loren was a successful farmer and rancher in Phillips County for 42 years.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and two brothers. His father died when Loren was eight years old.

 

He is survived by his wife Helen; a son, Ray and his wife Saundra of North Platte, Nebraska; a daughter, Dorothy Hubbard and her husband Doug of Denver; two grandchildren, Brent and Lesa Lloyd; a brother, George Lloyd of Hamilton, Kansas; two nieces; nephew; cousins and many friends.

 

A niece Mrs. Dudley Berry and her husband of Cheyenne, Wyoming attended the funeral. Mrs. Berry was born on the same family farm in Greenwood County, Kansas.
