Shot in the Back
Among the veterans visiting Fort Morgan this week are J. R. Williams and T. B.
Mitchell, grizzled old fellows who saw plenty of active service in the Civil war
and felt the sting of the enemy's lead. Mr. Williams likes to joke [about]
himself of receiving a bullet through his blanket roll on his back without
serious damage to himself. To his credit, however, this occurred immediately
after having been wounded in the face by a bullet and his ammunition was wet
with his own blood and he had turned to give place to another less disabled. --
