Asmur Prunsman

In 1880 Holt County, Missouri, Asmus is 16, one of six sons of J.W. and Catharine Prusman.

Also in Holt County in 1880, Carra E. Sipes is 13, one of six kids of Peter and Nancy E., both 37.

In 1900 Holt County Asmus, born September 1863 in Ohio, has been married ten years to Clara E. 1867 Missouri.  She's had four kids, two living, Ruby H. May 1894 and William B, 1896 and niece May Prusman, possibly eleven months old, all three born in Missouri.

Still in Holt County in 1910, Asmus and "Ella" have Nellie R. 15, William B. 13, and May 10.

In 1910 Holt County Grace Cordrey is 14, with parents James and Barbara, both  52.

In 1917 Asmur owned two quarters in 36, 6N 50W.

He might be the "Asmus Prusman" in 1920 Phillips County, 56, born in Ohio, with Ella 52, Missouri.

In 1920 W.B. Prusman, a laborer,   follows Asmus  in the Phillips County census, married to Grace, 23 and they have Dale, 1.

William Basil Prussman had registered in Holt County, born May 6, 1896, and was single,

Daughter of James and Barbara Cordrey. Grace Cordrey and William Prussman were acquainted from childhood and had decided upon marriage prior to his family's decision to move to Colorado. On September 29, 1917, Grace came by train to Colorado and was met by William Prussman at Wray in Yuma County and they traveled to Denver together where they were married. 


1917 Holt County, Missouri "Q n. I Orccnc, real estate agent, of this city, has sold the Aamua (Mike) Prussman farm, one-fourth mile east of the Tierce school houso to Harry and James Milne, and Mike and family will move to Holyoke, Colorado, the first of next March, moving on to his section of land recently purchased from H. I Greene. His son, Will Prussman, and Al and Emmett Cordrey left Tuesday morning by auto for Holyoke, where they will put the section in wheat. Mr. Al Cordrey also expects to sow his own quarter, purchased last week from R. L. Greene, in wheat. Mike also sent out a car of machinery, and among the machinery was an oil-pull tractor that he purchased through Scott. Hodfin"

Barbara Cordrey, 62, widowed, is also in Phillips County in 1920, living in Holyoke with daughters Effie 23, a dressmaker, and Stella 19.

In 1930 Phillips County William and Grace have Dale J. 11, and added Neal W. 9, Lena M. 6, Lyle G. 4, and Dela M. 2.  Barbara Cordrey, 72, widowed mother of Grace, born in Missouri, is living with them.

"Asnus" and Ella are living alone in 1930 Phillips County.

In 1940 Barbara Cordrey is living in Holyoke, and Lena "Russman" 16 is with her.  - the census says "Gr niece"

William and Grace are still in Phillips County in 1940, with Dale J., W.Neal, Lena M. Lyle Jeroe, and Della Mae.

PRUSMAN RITES HELD SATURDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Asmus Prusman, long-time resident of the Amherst community, were held at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Lewis Funeral Home here. Rev. O.W. Brock, pastor of the Holyoke Baptist church, was in charge. Burial was in Holyoke Memorial Park.

Mrs. Prusman died at about 10:30 Wednesday morning of last week at the Phillips County Hospital. She was 84 years old and had been in falling health for some time. She was a patient at the hospital for three weeks before her death. Mrs. Prusman was a member of the Methodist church.

As Clara Ellen Sipes, one of ten children of Peter and Nancy Sipes, Mrs. Prusman was born September 5, 1867, near Forbes, Holt County, in northwest Missouri. On December 26, 1889, she was married there to Asmus Prusman. They had four children, two of whom, a son and a daughter, died in infancy.

Mr. and Mrs. Prusman and their family lived near Forbes until March 1, 1918, then moved to the present home, sometimes referred to as the old Scott Evans place, seven miles northeast of Holyoke.

Preceding Mrs. Prusman in death besides the two children already mentioned were her parents, two sisters and four brothers. Surviving are her husband; a son, William Prussman, Holyoke; a daughter, Mrs. Reed Bailey of Oregon, Missouri, an adopted daughter, Mrs. Ernest Coler, Holyoke; three brothers, Brada Sipes, Forest City, Missouri; Willis Sipes, Santa Monica, California; and Virgil Sipes of Oregon, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Six of her grandsons served as pallbearers at the funeral.

Relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral were: Mrs. Larmar Prussman, Mrs. Charles Schaeffer and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Prussman of Forest City, Missouri; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Daise of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Kermit and Robert Bailey of Oregon, Missouri.

ASMUS PRUSMAN SERVICE FRIDAY

Last rites for Asmus Prusman, 91, who had lived in Phillips County since 1918, were conducted Friday afternoon at the Lewis Funeral Home here. Rev. Alvah C. Lynch, pastor of the local Baptist church, was in charge. Burial was in Holyoke Memorial Park.

Mr. Prusman passed away on Wednesday morning, April 6, at the Phillips County Hospital where he had been a patient about four days. He was preceded in death by a son and daughter, his wife, five brothers and two sisters.

Asmus Prusman, familiarly known as "Mike" among his friends, was a son of Catherine and Henry Prusman. He was born September 24, 1863, in Cleveland, Ohio. At the age of 5 years he moved with his parents to Forbes, Missouri where he grew to manhood.

On December 26, 1889 he was united in marriage with Clara Ellen Sipes. To this union four children were born two of whom survive.

On March 1, 1918 Mr. Prusman with his family moved to a farm northeast of Holyoke where they resided for a number of years. Since his wife's death Mr. Prusman had made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Coler. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include a son, William B. Prusman, Amherst; one daughter, Mrs. Reed Bailey, Oregon, Missouri; and adopted daughter, Mrs. Ernest Coler, Holyoke 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral were: Mrs. Charles Schaeffer, Mrs. Jane Prussman and Max Prussman, all of Forest City, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McGivney, Denver, Mr. and Mrs. George Coler, Westminster, Colorado and Mrs. Reed Bailey, Kermit Bailey and Robert Bailey, Oregon, Missouri.
