In 1920 Thayer County, Nebraska, Eben Mathieson, 35, born in Scotland, immigrating in 1885, naturalized in 1892, and Lulu 30, have Raymond 6 and Donald 3.

In 1940 Thayer County, E.B. 55 and Lulu 50 are alone, farming.

EDWARD

On the same page in 1900 Thayer County, Nebraska, Edward Mahaffey born Aug 1879 in Illinois, is married one year to Daisy Oct 1880 Nebraska.  They're living with Daisy's mother Elsina, born January 1862 in Norway.

In 1910 Logan County "Edwin"  is 30, born in Illinois, farming.  Martha is 25, born Colorado.  One tree said she was Martha L. McDonald, born December 1884 in Fremont County, Colorado.

Edward proved up a quarter in 18, 6N 50W in 1914.

Edward Blaine Mahaffey registered in Casper, Wyoming, a freighter, married to Martha E. Mahaffey, born August 4, 1879.

In 1920 Edward, a truck driver for an oil refinery, and Martha are in Casper, no kids.  Martha said she was born in Colorado.

They're in Lafayette, Boulder County, Colorado in 1930, no occupation.

CLARENCE

Clarence Allen "Hap" Mahaffey 1898-1951 is buried in Sterling, with Grace (Gardiner) Mahaffey 1901-1991.

William “Bill” Arthur Mahaffey, 78, of Chubbuck, Idaho went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

Bill was born on October 20, 1935, in Sterling Colorado to Clarence and Grace Mahaffey and was one of ten children. He attended Lincoln Grade School, Sterling Middle School and Logan County High School. After high school, Bill served 6 years in the US Army.

In 1967, Bill met his friend and the love of his life, JoLynn Sorensen. They married a year later in Pocatello, Idaho and had three daughters. They also helped raise 14 foster children.

Bill drove truck for Garrett Freightliners for 10 years before purchasing the Swan Valley Centre in Condon, Montana. Bill and JoLynn were owners/operators of the store until 1993 when they sold the business. Bill later took a job at the State of Montana Department of Transportation in 1995 where he plowed the highways of the Swan Valley and retired in 2000.

In 2003, they moved to Sun City, Arizona but Bill soon missed having four seasons during the year and in 2007, they made their home in Chubbuck, Idaho.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman and spent countless hours hunting, camping and fishing. The highlight of his past few summers was Dylan and Mason, his grandsons, spending the summer with him. He brought them to know the Lord. Bill was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandpa and friend and will be missed every day.

Bill is preceded in death by: his parents, Clarence and Grace Mahaffey, brothers, Clarence, Glen, Edward, Robert LeRoy, sister, Arlene McIntyre and grandson William “Bryan”.

He is survived by: his wife of 45 years, JoLynn Mahaffey, daughters, Teresa Mahaffey of Palmer, Alaska, KayLee Weeks of Kapolei, Hawaii, and Holly (Marvin) White of Denver, Colorado, nine grandchildren: Shelby (Mike) Daniels, Samantha, Briana, Ashlyn, Taylor, Dylan, Tyler, Mason and Hailey, great-grandchildren, Maggie Rose, sisters, Betty Heuck, Mary Whitcomb, Rita Schuler, Glenda McPhie and a brother, Donald Mahaffey.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday March 24, 2014 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, Idaho. Interment will follow services at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 4th Ave, Pocatello, Idaho.
James Arthur Mahaffey, son of John and Mary Mahaffey, was born in Illinois on September 25, 1871. At the age of 14 years, he came with his parents to Thayer County, Nebraska in a covered wagon. They lived some years northeast of Hebron and later Northwest of Chester. He was married to Calldonia Strow on July 30, 1894. This union was blessed with five children, three daughters and two sons. For the past 48 years, they have lived on a farm northeast of Hebron. He loved the farm life and was an industrious and successful farmer, a good neighbor, a kind and good husband and father. The past year, he had been in failing health and spent several months in the hospital. He suffered an acute heart attack and passed away in a Lincoln hospital on October 14, 1948 at the age of 77 years and 19 days. He leaves to mourn his passing his invalid wife Calldonia, three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Wassom, of Hebron, Mrs. Beulah Higel of Bruning, Mrs. Gladys Wassom of Hubbell, two sons, James of Hebron and Earnest of Alexandria, also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Guy of Los Angeles, California and Clarence of Sterling, Colorado, and one sister, Mrs. Lulu Mathieson of Hebron besides many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the McGrue and Montgomery Funeral Home at Hebron at 2:00pm on Sunday October 17th, 1948. The services were conducted by his former pastor, Rev. W.H. Clark of Fairbury. Internment at Rose Hill Cemetery near Hebron. 
Calvin Paul Mahaffey - Journal-Advocate - July 22, 2005 - Sterling, CO - Calvin Paul Mahaffey, 88, of Sterling, died July 19, 2005, in Trinidad. Visitation is July 24 from noon to 5 p.m. at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services are July 25 at 9 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church, with Rev. Andrew Dimit officiating. Burial will follow at Otis Cemetery. Mr. Mahaffey was born June 26, 1917, in Gravity, Iowa, to Loren and Ruth (John) Mahaffey. He graduated from Logan County High School, and continued his education with one year at Colorado State College. On Jan. 14, 1937, he married Ruby Muchow in Otis. He worked as an engineer for Burlington Northern for many years. He also worked as an independent oil field contractor for 17 years, retiring in 1981. Mr. Mahaffey was a member of First English Lutheran Church. He is survived by daughter Judy Marley and husband Richard, Dewey, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Ruby on Jan. 1, 2004; one brother; and one sister.
