Lenora Feyerherm, second husband George W. Simkins son of Andrew and nephew of William Simkins.

In 1870 Montgomery County, Missouri, Silas Lancaster is a carpenter, 45, born in Ohio, married to Maria 26, New York, with Eliza 15 Levi, 11, and Philip 6, all three born in Iowa.  Silas might be the one that FindaGrave has in Exeter Nebraska 1825-1873.  Maria is the third wife of Silas, per the Ancestry trees - first was Hannah, then Eliza - Eliza and Levi are Eliza's kids - Philip is Maria's.

“The Le Claire Marine Railway” or the “Boat Yard” as it was generally called was located three blocks north of the public landing in Le Claire, Scott County, Ia., on ground included in the section given to Antoine Le Claire by the Sac and Fox Indians and within the quarter of this section laid out as the “Town of Le Claire”

     The Boat Yard was bounded on the north of Edwin street; on the south by Reynolds street, and extended from Main street on the west, down a gentle slope to the Mississippi river which at this frontage was very deep and sluggish.

     It was an admirable site for the purpose.  The heavy log ways laid on the round for the heavy cradles to travel on had just the right grade from the water up to the street.  The open streets on the north and south gave easy access to the yard from either end.

     The company that built the yard was incorporated in 1856 by Albert Jansen, Levi S. Chamberlin, Silas H. Lancaster, A. H. Davenport, and R. H. Rogers, and they had it completed and ready for hauling out the largest steamboats in September of that year.

Silas H. Lancaster was one of the early “rapids pilots” of Le Claire, (IOWA) while A. H. Davenport and R. H. Rogers of the firm of Davenport and Rogers were milling and merchandising in Le Claire. "

"Capt. D.F. Darrence, Le Claire, was born in 1843, and has a farm in Fillmore County, Nebraska of 320 acres.  "Married Eliza Lancaster in 167, a widow of Silas Lancaster (Deceased). She was born in Indiana.  BY this marriage there were four children, two of whom are living, viz.: Irena and Herchel."

  • Married: ABT. NOV 1867  Marriage fact: 1892 in Davenport, Iowa Note:  This couple were divorced in 1886, but later made up and remarried. In Feb. 1892, Eliza filed for divorce again, charging cruel and inhuman treatment. Dec. 18, 1916, Pg. 12 Capt. D.F. Dorrance of Le Claire, well known Mississippi river pilot, died Sunday morning at 9 O’clock at a Davenport hospital.  Death followed a stroke of paralysis sustained early Thursday morning, since which time he has been in a critical condition.  He was 73 years old.    Capt. Dorrance was one of the veteran, as well as best known pilots on the upper Mississippi  During his life he probably brought as many log and lumber rafts over the hazardous Le Claire rapids as any other pilot. Capt. Dorrance was born in Rock Islandc ounty, Oct. 5, 1843.  He was educated in the district schools and early in life took to the river.  When a mere boy he had the reputation of handling the oars with more dexterity and skill than any other lad on the river.  He soon became a pilot on a raft boat and later acquired several boats of his own.  His last boat was the “Irene D,” named after his daughter, Mrs. Irene Spinsby of Le Claire.    Capt. Dorrance was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Lancaster who died in 1892.  For the past five years he has been retired from active service, during which time he did occasional work at the pilot wheel.  The past summer he worked on one of the Bedra Wood’s sand boats in Molineand his last engagement was on the steamer Alice, owned by the interstate Material company..   In his day Capt. Dorrance was known as one of the most skilled and daring pilots on the upper Mississippi>  Surviving are two children, a son Herschel, and a daughter Mrs. I. S. Spinsby, wife of Capt. Spinsby of Le Claire.   Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon from the Suiter undertaking parlors in Le Claire.  Interment will take place in the Le Claire cemetery

    In 1880 Stanton County, Nebraska, Herman Feyerhenn is 6, the oldest of four kids of Charles 35 and Albertane 28 Feyerhenn.

    In 1900 Stanton County, Nebraska, Henry "Feyerherm"  born September 1873 is just married to Lenora born Feb 1871 in Missouri.  She's had two kids, one living - Effy M. Wimmer / Nimms, born Oct 1893 in Nebraska.

    In 1910 Leroy precinct, Logan County, Colorado, Lenora is 31, born in Missouri of New York parents, widowed, thirteen years in marriage, had five kids, three living.  Ethel is 10 (16), Otho 5, both born in Nebraska, and Julia ten months born in Colorado.

    Herman Feyerhuin, 38, born in Nebraska, is an inmate at the Colorado State Penitentiary in 1910.

    Lenora proved up  a quarter in 18, 6N 50W in 1914.

    Joseph Honeck owned 160 acres in 9N 54W in 1917 - near Merino.

    George W. Simkins married Lenora "Fegerhum" June 18, 1918, recorded in Washington County.

    George Washington Simkins, born May 11, 1874, registered with a Leroy address, married to Lenora.  George proved ujp a quarter in 31, 6N 50W in 1913.  (William H. Simpkins proved up a quarter in 5, 6N 50W in 1914, and Andrew J. Simkins a quarter in `18, 6N 50W in 1913)

    In 1920 Kelly precinct, Lenora, 48 is married to George W. Simkins, 45, and Otha C. 14 and Julia E. Feyerham 11 are with them.

    In 1930 Loveland, Colorado, George W. is a city constable, 56, Lenora 59.

    They're still in Loveland in 1940, no occupation.

     George 1874 -1962 and Lenora 1870-1964 are buried in Loveland Burial Park.

    Herman registered in Fort Collins, born September 14, 1873, a machinist, nearest relative Pollie Feyerherm of the same address.

    Herman and Polly Feyerherm are in Sterling in 1920, with Lila Rice 11 and Douglas Rice 9.

    Herman and Polly are in Loveland, Larimer County in 1930, with her kids Douglas U. Rice 19, and Lena E. Rice 21.

    Herman - 1872-1964 and Polly I. 1889-1978 are buried in Lakeside, Loveland.

    Julia Feyerherm married Noah Carter January 9, 1924, recorded in Larimer County.

    Julia in 1928 Denver is working at Quiter Starkey & Murphy, living at 2555 15th.

    OTHO

    O.C. Feyerherm married Gladys O. VanDusen October 20, 1927, recorded in Larimer County.

    Otho and Gladys O. Feyerherm are in Denver in 1928, and Fort Collins in 1929.

    Otho C. "Feyarherne" works at a canning factory in Brighton Colorado in 1930, 25, married to Gladys, 23, Oklahoma and they have Edna Lee 1.

    They're in Snohomish County Washington in 1940, with Edna Lea 11, Donald H. 9, Bonnie L. 2, and  uncle William  Feyerherm, 61.  Otho and William are both loggers.

    Otho C. Feyerherm died Dec 7, 1978 in Snohomish County, Washington.  The tombstone in Woodburn, Marion County, Oregon has Otho C. 1905-1978 and Lura A. 1914-1996 married March 1951.

    SIMPKINS, GEORGE W.; Farmer; Maquon Township; born in Pennsylvania, December 17, 1832. His parents, Horatio and Mary (Rice) Simpkins, and his grandparents, Ananias and Rachel Simpkins, came from Pennsylvania. He was married in Haw Creek Township to Mary, the daughter of David McCoy, an old settler in Haw Creek Township. Their children are: Andrew; Anne, wife of David Barbaro; Nathan; and Henry. His second marriage, July 31, 1886, was with Mrs. Elizabeth (Moore) Pumyea, the daughter of Andrew and Margaret (Steinbrook) Moore. Mrs. Simpkins has two children by her former marriage, William Allen and Edith Pumyea. Mr. Simpkins was born on a farm, and has always been a farmer. After his marriage he rented a farm for two years, one-half mile east of Maquon; he then rented a farm of his father two miles farther east; he then lived for five years three miles north-west of Maquon, after which he moved to Decatur County, Iowa, where he remained one year and returned in 1859. He afterwards farmed five years in Elba Township, and fourInteen years four miles west of Maquon. He then removed to Section 21, where he has one hundred and fifty-seven acres of finely improved land; he also has one hundred and sixty acres on Section 15, and four town lots. Mr. Simpkins is a democrat. He has been a member of the Grange for five years.

    In 1900 Dickey County, North Dakota, William Simkins, born May 1859 in Iowa, is married two years to Nettie Dec 1873 M"Mousira", with Clarence born Feb 1883 in Illinois.

    A.J. Simkins married Maria Eddy April 10, 1907 - recorded in Logan County.

    Andrew Simkins 58 and Maria 65 are in Leroy precinct, Logan County in 1910.

    Andrew Simkins and Maria Simkins divorced in 1914 in Logan County.  (But Andrew J. 1851-1940 and Maria 184401929 share a tombstone in Loveland Burial Park with Laura Slaughter -1851-1928)

    On the same page in 1910 are Henry Simkin 52 and Nettie 36.  Henry must be William H..

    Nettie 1873-1918 and William H. 1857-1920 Simkins are buried in Sterling.

    Clarence Simkins married Elizabeth Bickel September 18, 1917, recorded in Jefferson County.

    In 1920 Sterling, W.H. is widowed, with C.T. 37 a wholesale merchant and his wife Elizabeth 22, born in Michigan.

    Clarence T. Simkins 1881-1934 and M. Elizabeth Simkins 1889-1951 are buried in Sterling.
