History of Daviess and Gentry Counties "Joseph A. Dunavan and his wife went
to Colorado and remained there for four years. Leaving Colorado, they located in
Caldwell County, Mo., where Mr. Dunavan died in 1901, and Mrs. Dunavan a few
years later.
Their children were: Joseph, living near Seattle, Wash.; Jennie, now Mrs. Howe
of Washington ; Catherine, deceased, was Mrs. Brandon ; Isaac, died in Canada ;
David died in Kansas ; Alice, died in Caldwell County, Mo. ; Anna, died in
Illinois in 1892 ; and John and Amanda, both died in infancy. "

| "The Hamiltonian" Mar. 10, 1904 : "Miss Alice C. Dunavan died at the home of her brother, George Dunavan, three and one-half miles northwest of Hamilton, at 9 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 1904, aged about fifty years. The deceased was born in LaSalle county, Illinois, where she resided up to about fifteen years ago, when she came to Hamilton to keep house for her brother. She had been in poor health for some time, heart trouble probably being the immediate cause of her death. The deceased was a sister of Mrs. Aaron Howe, of this city. The funeral services were held at the Baptist church in this city, Sunday, March 6, at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. A.L. Cartin. "Allice" is on the same stone in Highland Cemetery as her parents, and Lewis and David are in the same cemetery. |

| "The Hamiltonian" of Hamilton, MO., on June 16, 1910 : "Died in Kansas. George Dunavan, of Mound City, Kansas, reached Kidder Wednesday evening with the body of his brother, David Dunavan, who had died at his home in Thayer, Kan., on Tuesday of this week. His illness was of short duration and death is supposed to have been caused by acute indigestion. He will be remembered by many of the residents of Hamilton and vicinity, having lived for a number of years on his farm which is now the R.W. Napier place northwest of town. The body was taken to the house of Lewis W. Dunavan near Kidder where the funeral services conducted by Rev. King of the M.E. church, Kidder, will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Highland cemetery. Deceased was 68 years old and unmarried. The brothers, L.W. of Kidder, Samuel of Baker, Ill., George of Mound City, Kan., and a sister, Mrs. A. Howe, of Kansas City, were here for the funeral. |

"Lewis R. Dunavan was born Sept. 26, 1856, near Ottawa, Ill., and died March 7,
1942, at Kidder, Mo., at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 11 days.
He was married July 4, 1879 to Jennie McMichael, also of the same town. In 1888
Mr. and Mrs. Dunavan moved to Colorado and after four years they moved to Missouri
where they lived in and around Kidder for the past 50 years. Mr. Dunavan was the
last of twelve children. He leaves his wife and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Monday, March 9, at the Houghton funeral Home in Hamilton,
under the direction of Houghtons and Homer Powell of Kidder. Rev. McGuire of the
Methodist.
Lewis D. Dunavan attended the public schools of Illinois and has been a
farmer all of his life. He farmed first in Illinois, but in 1888, he went to
Colorado, where he took up a claim near Sterling, in Logan County. In 1893 he
came to Missouri and for the next ten years lived on a farm near Hamilton, in
Caldwell County. He sold that farm in 1903 and bought his present farm of 120
acres of land two miles east of Kidder, This land was formerly the Captain
Emerson place. It is situated on the County Line road and has a good residence
and farm buildings. Mr. Dunavan does general farming and is very successful in
his work.
In 1879 Mr. Dunavan was married in Sheridan, Ill,, to Jennie McMichael, a
daughter of James and Margaret (Furr) McMichael.
| "The Advocate Hamiltonian" of Hamilton, MO., Dec. 19, 1946 : "Obituary of Mrs. Dunavan. Mary Virginia Dunavan was born Jan. 29, 1859, daughter of James and Margaret McMichael, and passed away Dec. 10, 1946, at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 12 days. She was born in Ruthland township near Ottawa, Illinois. Mrs. Dunavan was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, who passed away March 7, 1942, also by three sisters and one brother. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Maggie Peddicord of Zearing, Iowa; two brothers, James of Crown Point, Ind.; and William of Ottawa, Illinois, also a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dunavan passed away at the home of Mrs. Vinora Whitmire, who had cared for her the past four years. She had been an invalid nine years. The funeral service was held at the Bram Funeral Home Thursday at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Rev. James Health. The body was laid to rest in Highland cemetery. Pallbearers were her former neighbors at Kidder: Jess Dunkle, Ed Rekate, Earl Pennington, Orville Alden, Elmer Alden and Earl Morrow. -------- "The Advocate-Hamiltonian", Hamilton, MO., Dec. 12, 1946 : "Mrs. Jennie Dunavan, 88 Dies Tuesday evening. Mrs. Jennie Dunavan, who would have been 88 years old in January, passed away Tuesday evening at 6:20 o'clock at the apartment of Mrs. Vinora J. Whitmire, who had cared for her the past four years. Mrs. Dunavan had been bedfast all of this time. Mrs. Dunavan was the widow of Lou Dunavan and the couple lived many years in the Kidder community. She leaves two nieces, Mrs. Mabel Houghton and Mrs. Zella Tuttle; a sister, who resides in Zearing, Iown; and two brothers, one of whom, Wm. McMichael of Wedron, Illinois, arrived here this morning for the funeral which was held at 2:00 this afternoon at the Bram Funeral Home." |

In 1910 Kansas City A.R. Howe is 70, born in New York, married 37 years (second marriage) to Jennie, 57, born in Illinois. They have Clara, 18, born in Colorado.
Aaron Read Howe - 1840-1914 is buried in Caldwell County, Missouri # 70617071. The death certificate says September 23, 1839-October 19, 1914, parents were Ira and Charity Helmer Howe.
Perhaps she's the Miss C.M. Howe of Kansas City, who married D.M. Fowler of Lusk, Wyoming, in St. Joseph, Missouri
Mabel A. Houghton is divorced in 1920 Okanogan County, Washington, a teacher, and mother Jennie Howe, 67, widowed, is with her.
