Gerald Anthony “Jerry,”NEWTON
, a life-long resident of the Longmont area, died January 27, 2011 at
his home. He was 72 years old.
Jerry was born
on May 20, 1938 in Highland Lake, Colorado, the son of Elmer and Laura
(Drier) Newton. He grew up in Mead, Colorado and graduated from Mead
High School in 1956. He attended CU for several years. Jerry honorably
served in the US Army.
He married Nancy
J. (Litzenberger) Heil on May 16, 1975 in Longmont.
Jerry held many
jobs during his career. He worked for United Airlines, Beech Aircraft
and then Ball Aerospace for 23 1/2 years. He then worked at Skyline High
School as a custodian and finally at LifeBridge Christian Church until
ill health made it impossible to work any longer in 1998.
He was an active
member at LifeBridge Christian Church for over 30 years where he sang in
the choir for many of those years and served with the Men’s Ministry. He
was a Boy Scout Leader and active with Saints Alive. Jerry enjoyed
woodworking, crafts, playing and watching basketball, golf, bowling and
coaching Little League football. He was an avid Broncos, Nuggets, and
college football and basketball fan. Above all, Jerry will be remembered
as a family man who was very involved with his children, grandchildren,
and great-grandchildren.
Jerry was
preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Orbin, Ray, Jack, Tom,
David, and Robert and five sisters, Eunice, Betty, Rosemary, Martha and
Maureen.
He is survived by
his loving wife, Nancy J. Newton; his son, Travis J. Newton; his
daughters, Dona R. Wilkinson (Steve) and Lori B. Brucklacher (Dave), all
of Longmont; five brothers, Roland (Jo) of Montana, Richard (Phyllis) of
Colorado, Ronald (Mary) of North Carolina and Marcus (Donna) and Forrest
(Gail), both of Colorado; four sisters, Helen Teter of Illinois,
Patricia French (Dale) of Colorado, Kathleen Hetterle (Ed) of Washington
and Amy Marasco Newton of Virginia; his brother-in-law, Neil
Litzenberger (Marilyn) of Arizona and his sister-in-law, Cathy Schlagel
of Colorado. Jerry is also survived by four grandchildren, Dusty Cornell
(Patty) of Colorado, Tiffany Erdmann (Eric) of Colorado, Andrew Pellett
(Andrea) of Colorado and Matthew Pellett (Lindsay) of Pennsylvania;
eight great-grandchildren, Makenna, Raegan and Jakob Newton, Taylor and
Karli Erdmann, Ryan and Hailey Cornell and Sariah Pellett, all of
Colorado; several aunts and uncles along with many special nieces,
nephews and cousins and many friends.
A celebration of
Jerry’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at
LifeBridge Christian Church, 10345 Highway 66 in Longmont. Cremation at
Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield
Counties, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO 80026 or to
LifeBridge Christian Church.
