Ernest and Lydia (Heist / Haist) Dreier

 In 1881 Normanby, Grey South, Ontario, Ernst is 14, parents John 40 and Margaret 38, both born in Germany.  George is 16, Mary 13, John 11, and Anne 8.

Ernest married Lydia Haist, daughter of Jacob B. and Elizabeth Haist, February 5, 1889 in Alsfeldt, Grey, Ontario.

Ernest proved up a quarter in 26, 7N 50W in 1896, and timber-claimed  a quarter in 33, 6N 50W in 1898.

In 1900 Logan County, Ernest born May 1866 in Canada, is married eleven years to Lydia October 1867, also Canada.  They have May Feb 1890, Ernest Jan 1892, Letta April 1894, Lydia Dec 1895, Malinda June 1897, and Edna April 1899, all kids born in Colorado.

In 1910 Logan County, Lida is widowed, and with her are Emerit 18, Letta 16, Lydia 14, Malinda 12, Edna 10, Lynn 8, Ella 5, and Ernestine 3.

"Emerit" Arlo Dreier registered with a Fleming address, born January 10, 1892 at Leroy Colorado, married, also supporting mother and a sister.

In 1920 Logan County Emerit is 27, Daisy P. 21, both born in Colorado, and they have Dora, one.

In 1920 Logan County L.E. is widowed, with daughters Laura 18, Ella 14, and Ernestine 13.

In 1930 Logan County Emerit and Daisy have Doris L. 11, Douglas E. 10, Wayne A. 7, and Loren R. 5.

Lydia is widowed in 1940 Logan County, with  William Sonnenberg and  Lydia Sonnenberg the next household.

In the Leroy cemetery are Lydia A. (Heist) Dreier -Oct 20, 1867-Dec 9, 1960 and Ernest Dreier -1866-1906

Mrs. Dreier was born Oct. 30, 1867 in Ontario, Canada. She was married on Feb. 5, 1889 in Ontario to Ernest Dreier. He died in October of 1906. Mrs. Dreier and her husband moved from Canada to Colorado the month after they were married. They homesteaded in March 1, 1889 at Fleming. Mrs.  Dreier lived there most of her life. She came to Greeley in 1953  gelical United Brethren church of Surviving are the following six daughters: Mrs. Earl Achenbach of Greeley, Mrs. Laura Newton of Mead,- Mrs. Malinda Hagemeier of Sterling, Mrs. Lydia Sonnenberg.and Mrs. Edna Loos, both of Fleming, and Mrs. Ella Cathcart of Honolulu, Hawaii; one sister, Mrs. Melinda Killer of' Sterling; also grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Three children preceded Mrs. Dreier in death. Funeral arrangements will announced  by Adamson mortuary.  Greeley Tribune - December 9, 1960.

In 1910 Leroy precinct, August G. Myers is 31, born in Wisconsin, with Maggie 30 and six-month-old Stella.

In 1920 August is 41, Maggie 29, with Stella 10, Ethel 8, Robert 6, Irvin 4, Myrtle 2, and Ilo eight months.

In 1930 August G. and Maggie L. have Stella 20, Robert 16, Irvin 14, Myrtle 12, and Ilo 10.

August is widowed in 1940, with only Robert, 26, with him. (brother John, 58, Carrie S. 55, and son Kenneth 23   are the next household)
  Emerit Arlo Dreier (1892 - 1947)*
Jim Jackson’s roots are deep in Logan County, “At the age of 57, I look over my shoulder at the legacy our great-grandparents–our grandparents–and our parents have left us and I see something that needs protecting.”

His great-grandfather on his mother’s side was Ernest Dreier, who homesteaded in the Leroy Community in June of 1896. His only son, Emerit, Jim’s Grandfather, married, built a house (that is still standing and being lived in) and raised his family on the family farm. His youngest child was Jim’s mother, Ruth Dreier Jackson.

Jackson’s dedication in Logan County also extends to his father’s ancestry. His great-grandfather, Francis M. Jackson, arrived in Sterling in the Spring of 1888, and started several businesses, including an icehouse, steam cleaners, a general store, a farm and was the first Continental Oil Co. dealer in Northeast Colorado.

His son, James Harvey Jackson, Jim’s Grandfather, was born in Sterling in May of 1897. He graduated from Logan County High School in 1916, married, went on to the University of Denver and their dental college and came back to Sterling and began a 50-year dental practice. He was very interested in education and became one of the founders of Sterling Junior College, now known as Northeastern Junior College. A field house was named in his honor (Jackson Hall) and when it was raised to make way for the new event center, the arena was named in his honor along with one of his closest friends Roy Edwards.

Funeral services for Malinda Elizabeth Hagemeier will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday from Christ United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Keith E. Watson will officiate. Burial will follow In Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hagemeier, 86 of Aurora, formerly of Sterling, died Sunday in Aurora.
She was born June 18, 1897 in LeRoy to Ernest and Lydia Heist Dreier. She was reared in the LeRoy community and received her early schooling there.
On Sept. 5, 1917, she married Leonard Hegemeier in LeRoy. The couple farmed and ranched in the LeRoy and Fleming areas until 1957, when they moved to Sterling. Mr. Hagemeier died in 1960 and Mrs. Hagemeier continued to live in Sterling until she moved to Aurora in July of 1982. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Womens Club.
Mrs. Hagemeier is survived by nine daughters, Meryl Bledsoe and Ethel Mae Plog, both of Fleming, Nema Johnson of Potter, Neb., June Decker of Loveland, Eulalia Smith of Sterling, Grace Warren of Englewood, Joyce Brehm of Chicago, Ill., V. LaVon Boyer of San Diego, Calif., and Marilyn Quinn of Evergreen.
She is also survived by four sisters, Edna Loos of Flem ing, Laura Newton of Longmont, Ernestine Achenbach of Red Feather Lakes and Ella Cathcart of Honolulu, Hawali; 33 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grand children.

  Edna Dreier Loos (1899 - 1990)*
Graveside service and burial were Dec. 24 at LeRoy Cemetery for Edna Loos, 91, who died Dec. 22 at Sterling Regional MedCenter
Edna Dreier was born April 17, 1899, in LeRoy to Ernest and Lydia (Heist) Dreier. She attended school at LeRoy through the eighth grade and then attended a short course at Logan County High school in home economics.
On June 25, 1919, she married Harry Loos. They farmed in the LeRoy area until retiring in 1968. He died in 1977 but Edna continued to live on the farm, were she was an active homemaker until 1988, when she moved to Coventry Apartments at Devonshire in Sterling.
Mrs. Loos was a lifelong member of LeRoy United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Runge of Thornton; two sons, Richard of LeRoy and Larry of Fleming; a foster son, Monte of Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Ernestjne Achenbach of Greeley; five grand children, 10 great grandchildren and eight great grandchildren,

Gerald Anthony “Jerry,”NEWTON , a life-long resident of the Longmont area, died January 27, 2011 at his home. He was 72 years old.

 Jerry was born on May 20, 1938 in Highland Lake, Colorado, the son of Elmer and Laura (Drier) Newton. He grew up in Mead, Colorado and graduated from Mead High School in 1956. He attended CU for several years. Jerry honorably served in the US Army. 

He married Nancy J. (Litzenberger) Heil on May 16, 1975 in Longmont.

 Jerry held many jobs during his career. He worked for United Airlines, Beech Aircraft and then Ball Aerospace for 23 1/2 years. He then worked at Skyline High School as a custodian and finally at LifeBridge Christian Church until ill health made it impossible to work any longer in 1998. 

He was an active member at LifeBridge Christian Church for over 30 years where he sang in the choir for many of those years and served with the Men’s Ministry. He was a Boy Scout Leader and active with Saints Alive. Jerry enjoyed woodworking, crafts, playing and watching basketball, golf, bowling and coaching Little League football. He was an avid Broncos, Nuggets, and college football and basketball fan. Above all, Jerry will be remembered as a family man who was very involved with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

 Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Orbin, Ray, Jack, Tom, David, and Robert and five sisters, Eunice, Betty, Rosemary, Martha and Maureen.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy J. Newton; his son, Travis J. Newton; his daughters, Dona R. Wilkinson (Steve) and Lori B. Brucklacher (Dave), all of Longmont; five brothers, Roland (Jo) of Montana, Richard (Phyllis) of Colorado, Ronald (Mary) of North Carolina and Marcus (Donna) and Forrest (Gail), both of Colorado; four sisters, Helen Teter of Illinois, Patricia French (Dale) of Colorado, Kathleen Hetterle (Ed) of Washington and Amy Marasco Newton of Virginia; his brother-in-law, Neil Litzenberger (Marilyn) of Arizona and his sister-in-law, Cathy Schlagel of Colorado. Jerry is also survived by four grandchildren, Dusty Cornell (Patty) of Colorado, Tiffany Erdmann (Eric) of Colorado, Andrew Pellett (Andrea) of Colorado and Matthew Pellett (Lindsay) of Pennsylvania; eight great-grandchildren, Makenna, Raegan and Jakob Newton, Taylor and Karli Erdmann, Ryan and Hailey Cornell and Sariah Pellett, all of Colorado; several aunts and uncles along with many special nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends. 

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at LifeBridge Christian Church, 10345 Highway 66 in Longmont. Cremation at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO 80026 or to LifeBridge Christian Church.
