July 1907 Sterling "The District Oourt came to a close Tuesday evening, having dispatched considerable business notwithstanding the hot weather and the busy season of the year. The case of The People vs. John W. Walter was retried on Thursday and Friday of last week resulting in a conviction. The defendant gave notice of motion for a new trial and was granted a stay of execution of sentence pending the liling of the same, or until ten days. "

birthplace and get a legacy left him some time ago."
September 1908 "There is no danger
of an ice famine in Sterling. J. W. Walter has
seventy tons or the best on hand yet.
If you want to keep cool see him."
February 1909 "One of the staunch believers in
Sterling's future is J. W. Walter, the pioneer meat
market man. Mr. Walter has been engaged in the
butcher business in Sterling for seven years and has
already seen the town more than treble in population
and corresponding importance. With the enterprising
spirit of a progressive business man he has
improved his market with the growth of patronage
and his place on Front street is up-to-date.
Besides the best of home killed meats he handles
vegetables and domestic and tropical fruits and
plckels, olives, oysters in bulk and those
things which are only found In a modern market."

some time been in a Denver hospital, is recovering
rapidly now and her return home is expected next week.

March 1912 Sterling "In the case of the Redmen
Lodge against John Walters that was tried in the
district court yesterday afternoon before Judge
H. C. Riddle, the jury disagreed. The jury was
instructcd late yesterday afternoon and was
out practically all night debating
on th« evidence and was unable to agree.
The judge discharged them this morning and it
is not known whether the case will b« tried
again at this term of court or not."
December 1923 Sterling "Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Cobb and children spent the week end in Denver visiting at the home of Mrs. Cobb's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Walters. "
