In 1891 after a 25-year ministry, Tuttle retired. Through Tuttle’s efforts a second Universalist church in the community was revitalized in St. Paul. After his retirement he also spearheaded efforts and focused his energy to create a satellite church, a third Universalist church at 27th Street and Blaisdell Avenue South, formally known as the Third Universalist Society of Minneapolis)

In 1878 "We are reliably informed that of some fifty or more voters residing on the north side of the river, between Sarinda and Riverside, in which distance Sterling is included, there are but two republicans, and these two almost persuaded to forsake the error of their ways, and to accept the truth as it is written in the democratic platform."

May 1918 "Mr. and Mrs. Fred Porter of Fremont, Nebr., formerly early residents of Sterling, are visitors here this week at the home of Henry Sutherland. They drove through in their car."

November 28, 1918 "Henry T. Sutherland, a pioneer settler of Sterling, and a man long in public life, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Helen Salisbury, in Denver, according to information received here today. Mr. Sutherland was a victim of influenza and his death comes as a bad surprise to the hundreds of people of Logan county who knew and esteemed him.
Mr. Sutherland came to Northeastern Colorado forty-four years ago and had part in all the various phases of development of the district. For two terms he was assessor of Weld county, which then included Logan county, and when Logan county was formed he was assessor here one term. He has been postmaster of Sterling and served as sergeant-at-arms in the state house of representatives. Until recently he served as office deputy for the sheriff of Logan county.
Mr. Sutherland was a man of kind, courteous bearing, beloved by all who dealt with him or whose business affairs brought them in touch with him. One daughter, Miss Clara Sutherland, is a teacher in the public schools of Sterling. Another daughter, Mrs. Salisbury, lives in Denver. Ray Sutherland, his son, is with the American Expeditionary forces in France and the other son, Earl Sutherland, is in the Northwest.
Mr. Sutherland was in Denver with his daughter, caring for members of her family who are ill."

August 1919 " A reunion of the family of Mrs. H. T. Sutherland was held at the family home in Sterling on Sunday. Those present were Ray Sutherland, who has recently returned from military service overseas, Earl Sutherland of Salt Lake City, Utah, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Salisbury and children of Denver, Miss Clara Sutherland, and the mother, Mrs. Sutherland."

June 23, 1909 "Have you observed the deepening and broadening of that wonted smile on the face of Forrest Salisbury? So? Very well. Now, the reason, to-wit: the arrival of a baby boy. Mother and heir, who are at the home of H. T. Sutherland, in Sterling, are doing nicely. We'll waive the cigar, Forest, and hope that the youth may fall heir to all the graces of his mother and those genial qualities that have made his 'dad' so popular."

August 1908 " Mrs. Earl Sutherland and children of Iliff, who have been visiting the family of H. T. Sutherland for sevsral days, went to Merino Sunday morning to visit relatives there."

May 1910 "Earl Sutherland, who lives eight miles north of Proctor, was badly hurt in u runaway accident near his home last Wednesday. Mr. Sutherland was hauling a load of barb wire and in driving down a hill the load slipped off on the horses, throwing the driver beneath their feet. This frightened the team and they begin to run. both wheels of the wagon passing over Mr. Sutherland’s body Just below the ribs and badly crushing und injuring him internally. Dr. Kerlln, of lllff, was summoned and found the injured man suffering to such an extent that Dr. Purdue, of Sterling, was called in consultation. However, the injuries were not as bad as was thought at first, and unless unexpected complications arise, he will recover. At last reports he was improving rapidly."

June 1917 "The case against Earl M. Sutherland for wife desertion was called in Justice Naugle's court this morning and was dismissed, there being no evidence to substantiate the claims. Mrs. Sutherland stated that she was satisfied that there had been misrepresentation of the facts to her."

Earl is the owner of a plot in Sterling Riverside Cemetery of Maxine Marie Brooks, born April 16,1920, buried January 27, 1921.

September 11, 1919 " Miss Clara Suthorland and Stanford Conant were united in marriage Sunday at noon at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Forrest Salisbury, in Denver. Miss Sutherland is a well known Sterling girl, and for several years past has taught in the Sterling schools. Mr. Conant was formerly a teacher in tho Junior school here, but is now located in Tucson, Arizona, where he is teaching in the schools. Mr. and Mrs. Conant will male their home in Tucson."
